The person serving me was rude, I asked a question and he answered with a lot of attitude (it was a simple yes or no). The drink also wasn't that good and pretty pricy. The barista that made the actual drink seemed sweet though.

Friendly staff and good quality drinks! I only ever get the coffee drinks, not matcha or tea, but they have always been satisfactory. The baristas know what they are doing and make sure every drink is made with care. Their espresso tastes good in lattes and cappuccinos, but I would not recommend it on its own. They offer fresh pastries early in the day, but don't expect any will be left after noon.My only complaint is that everything is quite expensive (even more than Starbucks), but if you are a UVA student you can use flex dollars. Also, even though there is very little seating, the ambiance is nice and they play good music.

I am hesitant to give a low rating, because the coffee and tea, while very expensive, are quite solid. The pastries, while also overpriced, are also good. They seem understaffed or unprepared; the line gets very long and things take a while to get made, moreso than when the location was a Starbucks. The major issue is how often things run out or are unavailable: certain drinks on the menu will be unavailable at unpredictable times; they run out of hot food and pastries (especially hot food) very early in the day; and the prepared foods also run low and it's never certain what they'll have. It should also be noted that they are the same sandwiches, fruit cups, etc, that you can get at Crossroads or other places around the university. The physical space is basically unchanged from when it was a Starbucks.

While walking the Downtown Mall one weekday morning I stopped in for coffee and breakfast. The guy taking orders didn’t seem very happy to be there, but I placed my order and sat outside until a lady brought the food out. It looked OK, but not what I expected. The eggs and the ham didn’t have much flavor to them at all. The potatoes were also rather boring. I ate about half of it and tossed out the rest. The coffee was really good though; I tried their medium roast. Not sure why all the positive reviews, but I wasn’t impressed.

Good coffee, especially the mocha, good scones, and fresh-made egg sandwiches. Worth stopping in, if you're near the Mall.

Not only does Grit have great coffee, they have a menu that is very impressive. First the coffee, they have a good menu and the drinks are made well. We all enjoyed the coffee drinks we ordered. As far as the menu is concerned, Grit has one of the most impressive food menus I've seen at a coffee shop. We went for breakfast, and not only did they have a large menu, but the dishes themselves were large and delicious. I am jealous that this coffee shop is not where we live, but I will absolutely go here again when back in Charlottesville.

We were headed to train station and found this place about 4 minutes from Amtrak. We did not want a chain food breakfast and wanted a place where locals would go. You do have to park on the street and walk to it, but we were in and out in about 10 min to drive back and eat at Train Station Parking Lot. This place did not disappoint and they do have nice outdoor eating area. The breakffast burrito was so good. Good service, good food, good coffee!

We have stopped going to Starbucks and have been going to other local coffee shops. We discovered the Grit location in Stonefield shopping center a few months ago and stop by there any time we are passing by. This past Friday I stopped by, went in and found a line with about 8-10 people either waiting to place orders or waiting for their coffee. There was only one person working, which seems to be typical lately. I knew, by experience, that we were going to be there for about 45 minutes at a minimum so we walked out and reluctantly went to Starbucks. Hoping the owners will consider having more than one person working during peak hours. Still love the lattes and will stop again in the near future!

A little hidden gem off the road from Starbucks. Great coffee, worth passing by Starbucks!

I wanted to share my recent experience at the Riverside Village location and give the young male barista (SO sorry I did not get his name) some props for my experience this morning. I visited the location by Darden Towe Park around 1:15 this afternoon. The young man working there was friendly, helpful and accommodating, offering suggestions on how he could make a pumpkin latte for me that I would not find overly sweet, and happily answering my questions regarding the muffins in the window case. Great experience based on that alone. After I ordered and walked off to the side (I was the ONLY person other than the employee in the building) a man walked in without a mask. The employee immediately told him, very cheerfully and respectfully, that masks were required in the building. The man said he left his in the car. The employee offered to get one for him, that he had them available for customers. The man declined and said he had a medical condition, which he was unwilling to specify. The employee offered to serve him outside. "I'll be happy to serve you outside". The man declined and again said he had a medical condition, that he couldn't breathe with a mask on. The employee totally kept his cool, remained respectful, and again offered to serve him outside, but was firm in that masks are required inside. I told the man that he could also order online but he told us that it was "too crowded" (mind you, me the man and the barista were the ONLY 3 people in a very large, open space) inside and he was feeling sick or starting to feel sick, or something to that effect. He mumbled and I could not make it out clearly. Then he left. I was so impressed with how the staff handled this, I REALLY appreciate him standing up for the masking policy, and I will absolutely be back and recommend this business. Had the barista allowed the man to continue staying in the building, I would feel otherwise. So, THANK YOU!!! Additionally, I love the coffee here, and my pumpkin latte was just the right amount of sweet. I'll be back tomorrow :).
