Birthday Brunch Bust - The tight high-bar space next to purses, plants and poor views was coupled with okay service and inedible food. I would not recommend, I would not return.

Went with a few colleagues for dinner and left feeling torn. The service was very good, the dining room was really cool, and the Brussel Sprouts were outstanding. Unfortunately, the Scallop and Butternut Squash Risotto was a miss - uninteresting, undercooked, and rather boring and the chocolate torte dessert was also disappointing. For the prices and reputation, I expected a lot more. I might go back once to give them the benefit of the doubt, but it'd have to be amazing.

I ordered the breakfast croissant and the eggs had very uneven seasoning, some parts with inedible amounts of salt. Croissant was soggy. Hot tea was $5 and just warm. Overpriced.

We had to wait almost 15 minutes to get served and when we did the waiter didn’t even apologize or acknowledge the wait. He then told us the kitchen was out of all but the cheapest first course on the prix fixe menu. It happened that that cheap salad was the best of the food we had. The pheasant tortellini was very small for the price and was drowned in a greasy broth all without much flavor. The chocolate tart dessert was flat and flavorless. And the “boozy and floral” cocktail tasted more like white grape juice than anything else. All in all, this was a highly underwhelming dining experience, especially for the $150 price point. In the apt words of a fellow dinner (who got mischarged for a bottle of wine he didn’t order and then had to argue with the excuse filled waiter to get it taken off his bill), “I’m not impressed.”

We went for winter restaurant week…unfortunately, we had a very sub-par experience, particularly for the price. We sat for 15 mins before being served followed by not even an acknowledgment of the delay. We thought about leaving, and would have been better off to have done so. The food was middling at best and the drinks tasted flat without a hint of booze. The ambiance was quite lovely and cozy, but not lovely enough to make it worth the price. The poorly hung wallpaper in the bathroom felt reflective of the overall quality of the experience…

Came across this place on the way to the speakeasy downstairs, Lost Saint. That place is definitely worth checking out too. I loved the vibe and decided to spend my milestone birthday here! The service was friendly, even to go as far as saying, "Go Hokies" because I was with a Hokie, even though this is UVA town! The squid ink pasta was light and fresh. For some reason, I expected a cream sauce, maybe wishful thinking? The beef tartare came with crispy waffle cut potatoes. The cocktail was yummy too-- can't remember the name but it was sangria-esque. If you're in Charlottesville, check out this spot along with the hidden bar below!

I did not have dinner this stop, but staff and owner took great care of me as they always do. Went by for a night cap. Best ambience in Charlottesville.

DO NOT ORDER THE LOBSTER YOU ARE WASTING YOUR MONEY. I paid $40 for a couple pieces of lobster. I thought I was getting lobster based on the menu. I actually got a HEAPING of pasta and a few (emphasis is on a few) pieces of lobster. Was most of the food good? Absof*ckinglutely. Is the lobster actually lobster? Barely. Moral of the story -- good food... sure? Good service... and accommodating... yes. If you have patience and cash to spend, this is a place for you. Joseph (our server) is an angel btw... tip him well. "Lobster" pictured.

I should've known from my previous experience that I would not have a good one again. The rudeness by the staff was so incredible that we got up and left. Nothing appealing about location due to the horrible customer service by the overbearing snotty and rude staff. Don't waste your time Charlottesville has so many wonderful places that offer a fantastic ambience and wonderful food. Let this one not be on your list. Difficult to park. Difficult staff no reason to ever go here.

It's a beautiful atmosphere in a really warm and inviting old building in Charlottesville. Decorated exquisitely for Christmas. The menu was slightly limited and they didn't have what they needed to make what I had asked for. It was us in one other table but the service was a little slow, I'm guessing due to UVA being closed for the holidays so they were short on staff. But it was only two tables so....

Update 11/6/23 - Had reservations (Family Weekend) and once again disappointed with the service, but this time it was universal, not just the beverages. No one at the host station for 5-10 minutes. When the host finally showed up, told we'd have to wait for our table for another 5-10 minutes (only a few tables appeared to be occupied). After being seated, waited and waited. Tried making eye contact with the one person who appeared to be waitstaff but she avoided looking at us, just shuffled on by. Finally got water from the host. Waited and waited to order. Host took order (along with chit chatting with the guitarist, seemed to be doing multiple duties). Beverages finally came out and minutes later our food order (food was good but grits were cold). Then when it was time to leave, waited and waited to get the bill. We were not the only ones in this predicament. 4 entrees (~20-22), a side a fries, 1 beer and 1 Bellini for ~140. I couldn't tell if they put in the gratuity. We wanted to pay cash and because we didn't want to wait any longer for change, left a pretty hefty tip. Hope it was split with the guitarist, as his playing was lovely. Service was slow the last time we were here, but food was better, thus higher rating earlier. This time service negated the building's charm and the music. Just doesn't seem like they care all that much for the diners, as if you're lucky to eat there. Won't be back.Original review (Oct. 2022): Delicious brunch, best Bloody Mary I’ve ever had and wonderful Spanish guitarist playing during our meal. The only reason I’m not giving it a 5 is because beverage service was incredibly slow. Our wait person appeared to be stuck not only waiting tables but also hostess and answering calls to the business, so not her fault. The bartender seemed to focus all of his attention on the one woman sitting at the bar versus looking out for the waitstaff. Lobster rolls and pork belly & grits were consumed and absolutely perfect. Love the interior and the music was much appreciated. Will definitely eat here again.
