Blown away. ...some of the best food I've ever eaten. Stephanie was a great server as well. Just let her make recommendations; she won't steer you wrong. I can't wait to go back. The ragu was incredible.

The food was very disappointing. Ordered eggplant parmegiana and it was paper thin. Tasted more breading than eggplant. A friend ordered a pasta dish and also thought it was not that great. The beet salad was rather sparse for the price. The atmosphere here is so loud that you really can't have a conversation. The owner needs to install some acoustic tile to absorb sound and make it a dining experience. I also do not appreciate paying a 20% gratuity for them to grab an expensive bottle of wine off a rack and serve it.

Service and atmosphere are outstanding. I sat with my family at the bar and our bartenders were lovely; super attentive and very fast. The food was good but not mind-blowing -- portions for the pasta were a little small (although filling) and I wish the focaccia had slightly more *bite* and a crispier crust. A lovely place for date night or a special meal.

We had a 5 pm reservation. You have to line up in a narrow alleyway with leaking air conditiones. Seating was strange. When the door opened people rushed in and sat down. Even though we were at the beginning of the line and wanted to sit in the front room we were told we had to sit in this one particular area in the back which was extremely loud. I asked if the music could be turned down, the wait person told me it had been although I could not tell the difference. There is a $ 6 charge for bread. The most pleasant person there was the gentleman who filled our water glasses. He actually smiled and asked how we were doing. A second younger man who refilled our water glasses was also pleasant. The waitress was curt and talked so fast , it was difficult to understand her, especially with all the noise. The red wine offerings were expensive for the quality of wine. The white wine more reasonable.. The beet salad was good but extremely small. The pasta was very good except that it was described as having heirloom tomatoes but those were not visible. Even though we sat down first the other 3 tables in that area were definitely given more attention. (We were 2 older women). Given the situation we decided to go elsewhere for dessert. There is a mandatory 20% tip on the bill, which would not have been my choice given the service. Good service can make all the difference in one's experience. If we had ordered dessert the bill would have been about $100 per person. The best part of the evening was the little boutique shop across the street. 2 very nice, helpful staff and we each bought new dresses there!

Amazing meal during student drop off. Sat at Chef’s table where we lived watching Robert and Mario at work. Food was incredible, service impeccable and Chef Robert even engaged us with some Dad jokes! Bread pudding not to be missed.

I dine at Tavola everytime I'm in Charlottesville. Tonight was a mistake. Today is my birthday. I live on the road as a field service technician. All I wanted was a very good italian dinner for my birthday. I ordered a caprese "delicious", insalata verda, "delicious", Capallini Frutti Di Mare 'Fra Diavolo' for my entree, and a Mafaldine WITHOUT Pine nuts to go, and cheescake for desert. I sat at the bar. Service was very attentive. I thought it to be odd when I received my to go order before I got my entree. No big deal though. That is until I was sitting there for approximately 15-20 waiting on my entree. Both bartenders was getting very anxious and concerned that my order had not came out yet. One bartender went to check on my order. Came back out shortly and informed me that the kitchen had screwed up and made my entire order to go. The bartender then took my "Boxed" Capallini Frutti Di Mare 'Fra Diavolo' entree that had been sitting next to me for approx. 20 minutes back into the kitchen, plated it and brought it back out to me. I then ate my luke warm dinner. "DISGUSTED"! Now lets discuss my to go order. I ordered it without pine nuts. I get back to my hotel, open it up, and guess what? There was pine nuts all over it. So I had to throw it away because I'm allergic to nuts. Then lets talk about the "Included Gratuity" so Tavola can pay their employee's a decent wage. Tips are based on quality of food and service provided. Tavola totally missed the mark tonight. $127.01 later, I am disgusted and infuriated at my birthday dinner experience.
tavola is amazing!!! our server was super attentive and friendly!! the food was amazing, pasta was so good, drinks were good, tiramisu was good!! incredible italian place

We arrived for 5 pm reservation and did not receive food at the table until 615 pm. We were the second people seated and still waited that long. Questioned the waitress about the delay and she blew off our concern. Manager walked by numerous times and could obviously see there was no food on our table for a long time. When the food did arrive the pasta was not fully cooked. To add insult, they added an automatic 20% gratuity for this awful food and service. I would strongly recommend you consider other option if you are looking for Italian in Charlottesville. Never again.

Probably the best place in C-Ville.
Update: I wrote this review eight years ago and nothing has changed (I eat here several nights every week). If you like Italian food you must go to this restaurant. Wine, food, environment.
Although Google shows that they offer takeout, they do not. I reported this to Google and hope they update that. (As I said, I'm just a regular, not an employee.)
