Having grown up in Portsmouth, Rodman's is THE GOLD STANDARD for 1) vinegar-based BBQ, 2) fried chicken, 3) cole slaw, 4) hush puppies, 5) hot salted peanuts, and 6) pimento cheese. It's simply the best...PERIOD, and I lived in NC for 3 years. Try Rodman's and you'll know exactly what I mean whenever you try any other bbq place.
Don't let the smell of fried chicken put you off. Authentica Eastern North Carolina style BBQ. Vinegar with spices at the table completes the experience. Ah. Don't forget about the complimentary fried peanuts. I put them in my coke bottle as the gods intended.
IYKYK. This place has been a Portsmouth staple since I was born and the food definitely shows. Perfectly cooked every time and the staff working here are so sweet and friendly. You can feel the family in this place right when you walk in the door. IT makes me happy to see this place going because IT is so special to me being from Portsmouth. Absolutely Love IT
