Food was excellent, as always. Service was prompt and courteous. I have been eating at this establishment since its' opening (as McDuff's) back in 1986. Even though ownership changed a few years ago, the food and service has always been top notch. The decor is regularly updated/refreshed and although it can get a little loud it's always a great experience. Everything I have ever tried on the menu has been outstanding. I would not hesitate to recommend anything they serve . My wife says they have the best cream of crab soup she's ever tried - and I agree. The Oysters Rockefeller are also fantastic.
Very much our experience. Good was very good combined with terrific service. Looking forward to returning soon
Nice meal but a little pricy for the food. Server was attentive. Panko shrimp was a little heavier on the breading than expected. Seafood scampi was good.
Overall good but would love to see a return to more attention to details, such as oysters on rock salt so that they don't arrive to the table jumbled up, breadbasket at each table without asking and more attentive waitstaff. I'll return but for the cost these types of things should be improved
Cream of crab soup, blackened salmon (a special), fried oysters - all outstanding! Can't wait to return
The service was excellent & the food was outstanding. From the descriptions and reviews I had read I expected something a little more upscale, but this was a nice beach type restaurant so nothing bad about that. The noise level was a bit loud since this was supposed to be a romantic anniversary dinner, but it could have been where we were seated ( I did notify the restaurant through Open Door it was an anniversary dinner). Although there were a few things I wished were different, it was an incredibly enjoyable dinner. I expect to return next time we visit the area.
Food was good but we felt rushed. Food came out super quick instead of pacing each course.
AJ's main dining room was the perfect environment for date night. Seated quickly with a reservation and received warm friendly service with Holly as our waitperson — she was outstanding!! Great main dish choices... and if you're just in the mood to nibble, they offer a deep selection of ‘small plate' appetizers and sides. Plenty of local seafood choices. Our baked Oysters Rockefeller were delicious. Drinks came out from the bar pretty quick and were perfect (wide selection of wines by bottle or glass). We will be back! : )
I was disappointed with the variety of dishes offered, mainly entrees were overpriced at $35 and over.
If you're looking for great seafood, drinks, and a pretty place this is it! The AJs famous crab cakes did not disappoint and they have the best cream of crab soup I've ever had. My martinis were delicious and our server was on it!

We've had many wonderful meals at AJ's, one of our favorite dining spots on the island. Our curved booth was perfect for our party of 3, and the staff is very friendly and the service was excellent. Our meals this visit were tasty as always but the jumbo lump crabcakes were lacking on the lump crab content, fair amount of filler; the seafood paparadelle that my guest has had there several times before, she mentioned also had less seafood than usual. The panko fried shrimp was delicious and plentiful. A nearby couple was reserving for a party of 16 soon so clearly they think highly of AJ's. Looking forward to a return on next visit to town.
The crab bisque and sweet potato fries were stand out. The swordfish, however, was overcooked and dry and might have been a few days past its prime. Stay simple and local for acceptable meals at this price.
We had excellent service from the wait staff, Holly. She was very helpful explaining the menu and answering our questions. The food was just okay. The fried brussels sprouts were so over cooked they were unrecognizable. They were not worth the extra charge for them. The red skin mashed potatos were just okay. The scallops were expensive and not really worth the cost. The atmosphere was friendly and quiet. Overall an expensive meal for a so so food. We have eaten here several times in the past and have had much better experiences. Hopefully next time will be better.
We made our reservation a little more than 3 weeks in advance for a dining room table. We were seated in the bar area anyway, because they had no tables available in the dining room. Our waitress was busy with a table of 10. After 30 minutes the waitress had not taken our order and we left to find dinner elsewhere. The island has few dining options, and the poor service at AJ's shows they know there is a captive audience.
Over priced
