Great menu, plenty of options for everyone in the family! The French Dip sandwich didn't have much cheese and was a little dry, but the sweet potato fries were really good. Otherwise, the food was great. It was a little chilly where we were seated, any time the front door opened.
This was our first time there and we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. The beer selection we knew was fantastic, but the food was very good! Much better than normal bar food. Our server was great - it was crowded but everything was correct and the wait was minimal. We will be back!
Lovely festive holiday atmosphere in the front dining area with fire places, etc. But that's about where compliments end for recent visit this weekend. Maybe they were in the weeds or short staffed, but the service was extremely slow. A few tables were sat and then got up and left after no one came to greet them. Our waiter was hustling, but just not very good at his job and probably had way more tables than he should have. Food was only average. Beer list is large, but they were out of many things. Maybe this is a better bar than restaurant experience.
The service was terrible and the food was not the greatest as everything was cold when received and it didn't include all listed on the menu (example the Southern Mac N Cheese didn't have the corn pico de gallo, BBQ sauce, and barely any meat and the Hungarian potatoes that came with the Krakow were French fries ). It took 30 minutes to get the cocktails ordered, 30-40 minutes for a beer, 40 mins for a kid burger that wasn't right when first brought to the table, waiter didn't know the kid's veggie nor showed any interest in finding out. We won't be back.
This was our first visit to Capital Ale House - it definitely will not be our last, we will be back! Really enjoyed the food, parking was ample and convenient, and service was good. See you next time we're in the area!
The food was delicious. We were a table of four with a variety in ordering- apps, salads, schnitzel and burgers all delicious. The service was extremely slow, very kind but slow. We saw our waitress 3 times- take the order, bring the order, bring the check. We will return because the food and the ambiance definitely deserve 4 stars!
One of the best restaurants in the city of Fairfax outstanding service and friendly service and good food
Capital is always great for a visit, comfort food, and a nice selection of beers in small glasses. Service was great with a smile, the waitress was very efficient, and offered a friendly service. The food was plenty, and the manager stopped by to check on us.
Place is deceiving from the outside, it's big in there. Service was lacking, just seemed like they were understaffed. Overall very friendly, polite, and helpful. Just not enough people. Food was very good. Would definitely come back to try other menu items.
This was my first time here since capital ale house replaced hardtimes and I have to say, I love this place. Imad was awesome and really took care of us. Beers are great, food was great, and service was great. Definitely will be coming back.

This place has so much potential. The building is beautiful. The ambience is wonderful, especially when the fireplaces are going. Good selection of beer. The food and service, however, always leaves me with a bad taste. We usually wait a while for food, even when the place is fairly empty. The pretzel we tried before is good. Today's choice of fried pickles was awful. They were super greasy long strips and the batter fell off on our clothes as we ate. The schnitzel is usually good. I had a steak today though and it was horrible - completely overcooked and bland with an odd freezer-burn aftertaste. The broccoli was cold and the potatoes had no flavor at all. The server never refilled our drinks or offered another beer. Just too pricey for this result. So disappointing.

We really enjoyed our lunch here. My husband and I both got burgers and shared the fried pickle appetizer. We agreed it’s the best food we’ve had in the area. The burgers were each cooked exactly to our preferences and had great flavor. We will definitely be back.

The service and atmosphere was wonderful. The loaded fries were mediocre at best. There was maybe 25% of the toppings in the picture shown on the menu actually on the fries in person. Maybe they should spend less money on the photos in the menu and more money on the toppings and food. In addition, I ordered the roasted pork special with broccolini and mash sweet potatoes the pork was overcooked and under seasoned. I wouldn't pay for it again the one thing that would keep me coming back. There's a bartender, the server in the cocktails.
My boyfriend and I went to the Fairfax Capital Ale House on Saturday night. Our server Imad was amazing! He was full of energy, knew the menu very well, and had great suggestions. The last time we were at the Fairfax location we had a long wait time and didn’t receive our appetizer. We were truly impressed by the service and the quality of the food. The spicy peach bbq sauce is mouth watering. My boyfriends burger and my southern Mac and cheese were delicious.10 out of 10 would recommend!
