We just picked up 3 entrees from Thompson’s for our Christmas party-and they were AMAZING!!!! All 3-Rigatoni Bolognese, Eggplant Parmigiana and the Vegetable Lasagna-GONE in no time! Everyone raved about how delicious each one was! I was so pleased and it made giving the party so much easier. I also picked up their focaccia bread and it is always so good! Entrees were ready at pickup time and easy to transport! We will be doing this every time we have a big party now! Thank you, Thompson’s Italian!

Very much impressed with this restaurant. The service was impeccable, absolutely attentive to every detail. Food was fantastic, started with artichoke appetizer, for entrees I had rigatoni and my wife had the gnocchi. Fantastic choices.

Thompson Italian delivers warm hospitality and standout handmade pastas that feel both comforting and refined. The flavors are bright and seasonal, and the desserts—especially the inventive soft serve—are always a highlight. With its cozy neighborhood vibe and thoughtful service, it’s a consistently delightful spot for a modern Italian meal.

Thompson Italian is such a cozy and inviting spot. The pasta and sauces are full of flavor and feel homemade, and every dish I tried was delicious. The staff was friendly and attentive, which made the meal even more enjoyable. It’s a comfortable place to relax and enjoy a satisfying Italian dinner. I’d definitely come back.

We are so lucky to have this restaurant in Falls Church. Everything on the menu is great. Whenever I go to a new restaurant I usually get their chicken dish...to me, whether they ace the chicken is a signal of whether it's a place you want to come back to. Bottom line, their chicken dish is phenomenal. All the pasta is made from scratch. We had the lasagna special last night and it was terrific. On a whim our friends ordered the apple cake (unusual for an Italian restaurant!) and it was complex and amazing! There is a reason this is on the Washingtonian Top 100 list, and we are lucky to have it in our neighborhood.

Good for neighborhood place. Seems over priced though for what it is. Staff work hard not friendliest but may b function of being slightly under staffed I’m not sure. I think RPM in DC is more upscale but not more $$$.

I was invisible to the bartender, while my flank was served. Requested for black pepper with multiple staff, each assiduously avoiding eye contact. Bland Rigatoni bolognese lacked any flavor, let alone bolognese.

I visited Thompson Italian for the first time on September 6, 2025, and unfortunately had a disappointing experience with one of the servers. I was on a first date that evening, so we took a little extra time to talk and decide what to order, simply enjoying the atmosphere and the menu.

The server seemed impatient from the start, and as he walked away from our table, I could hear him muttering a rude comment under his breath. It was shocking, disrespectful, and completely unprofessional, especially for a restaurant with such a good reputation. The moment made what should have been a pleasant evening feel uncomfortable.

To be fair, the food was delicious, but unfortunately it didn’t make up for the poor service. I truly hope management takes this seriously and works on improving how customers are treated, because no one should have that kind of experience in an otherwise great restaurant.

There were eight of us dining, and every single one of us had the most incredible food we have ever eaten. From the appetizers to the main dishes to their specialty drinks. We are a family who enjoys dinners out and by far this has been one of the best so far highly recommend ! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

You don’t get what you pay for. We’ve stopped by twice now to try it out. So much promise! The atmosphere is really nice, as are the staff and service. The food is just missing the mark as far as *taste* goes, however. The presentation of the dishes is lovely, but the flavors are just lacking. We have had the mushroom pasta, the squash pasta, the cioppino, and another that escapes me. The wine is very pricey, as are the cocktails. Trio and North Italia are so much better, consistently. It saddens me that this is the case. Would love to see Thompson make it worth it to go there, but at this point it’s off our list.

Excellent pasta and service. Probably best pasta in the DMV. We had the saffron shrimp linguine and the squid / lobster pasta special. Both were delicious.
