So, I just had the wildest experience at this place First off, the vibe was weirdly chill until I walked into the bathroom and found a Golden Retriever just chilling on the floor like it owned the place. I honestly wasn’t sure if I was supposed to pet it or what. The food? Let’s just say I think they might be holding onto some leftover mystery meat from last year. I ordered the “Chef’s Special” and it literally tasted like a time machine to 2020—complete with a side of old fries that probably had a backstory. And did I mention the dog? It was super friendly but I can't tell if that made it better or worse. It felt like I was dining at a weird petting zoo! 10/10 would recommend for the sheer absurdity, but maybe eat before you go.

We were roadtripping on 95 and needed a place to stop for snacks so we selected Foode and Mercantile. What a very pleasant surprise. After winding through a tree lined road boarding the river, we found the restaurant in quaint downtown Fredericksburg, VA. We each ordered bourbon based drinks, coffee, tea and Smoked Salmon, Quiche and a gingerbread scone! It was delicious! They quickly fixed what was a smaller than normal portion of salmon and kept coffee and water glasses full without asking. Very nice spot! Fresh cooked to order food with great service! It was a 4.7 experience. Visit and enjoy!

We were vectored off I-95 due to an accident and landed in Fredericksburg. Read the reviews and SO GLAD we came here!! Josie was delightful. My red eye coffee and waffles and chicken were outstanding! Charming town. Mercantile is in an historic bank building.

Originally helpful when we walked in, we used the ramp because we brought a child in a stroller. We waited and got on the list and they actually forgot about us. We had to find someone to seat us. And there were multiple empty tables. They had us in a waiting area and they knew we were there. The host said we could order coffee while we waited but we didn’t see anyone who was approachable because they were busy and didn’t pay attention to us. Additionally no one came back.

When we got our table it was nice but it felt like they didn’t like having guests with kids, which is offensive. The food was not great. The biscuit and berries was crunchy. Why is a biscuit crisp, when you could make a soft biscuit. Odd. Then, we got our check it felt rushed, unlike other guests it was just really odd. And we put our card out the waiter didn’t even come back for 10 min. I wasn’t impressed. I really thought this would be a great place to eat. Pass.

If you want amazing food you need to go to Mercantile. Describing my breakfast the eggs were soft and fluffy and inviting to the eye and tummy to eat. The bacon was awesome, and the potatoes well they were a dreamy. Lastly, being a coffee snob, I think this was the best coffee I have enjoyed in the area. If you are looking for a quaint place to sneak a breakfast or lunch this is the place to go. It truly an old meets new fusion. The service was so refreshing good, it even made this old seadog marine smile.

This place wins every time! Awesome servers on a busy Sunday, they rocked out without missing a beat. Food was delicious and love the variety of menu without it getting too overwhelming! I’ve come now twice for the weekend brunch service and this is a local favorite for me.

Ordered a fried chicken sandwich for the hubs and a salmon salad for myself traveling en route from Richmond to DC. Packaged very well, and so delicious! The salmon was well seasoned and caramelized and was a substantial piece separate from the salad for me to put on once I picked up. Also, trued the pimento toast....it was yummy, subtle on a warm, soft baguette.

I ordered the Biscuits and Gravy, my wife ordered the Two Egg Breakfast with a Biscuit served with fresh creme and fruit. The biscuits were not fresh and very hard. The gravy was essentially 80% ground sausage (not well seasoned) and was stacked on top of the scrambled egg instead of the biscuits. The eggs and potatoes were very good, but the bacon came out burnt to a crisp. Our server/bartender was good, but the other bartender was throwing glasses and bottles into the wash bin at what seemed like as hard as they could. Drinks were mediocre (pineapple mimosa and scrub mojito). You're mainly paying for the atmosphere as the restaurant is quite lovely, but the food just simply isn't worth the return visit.
