My spouse brought me to eat for Mother’s day he made reservations for Saturday at 6 and we was supposed to to be at the window over looking the water and they said oh we will have to move you we have a prom party then they moved us to a seat with all the prom kids . I ask then to be moved to another table . Then we set there for about 25 kin before the waiter ever came to get drink orders , then when he took our order he was not very friendly or timely . We ordered steak with shrimp and unsweet tea had to ask the bus boy for steak knife and also we didn’t get shrimp so had to ask the bus boy which was nice , my steak was cold the bread was old tasting the best thing that night was fried green tomatoes. My husband felt bad because he wanted this to be a nice evening for Mother’s Day . This place is not worth the drive or the time it was at least an hour and half away . The waiter never even came back around except to bring the check . Really bad experience . My husband can fix a better steak at home and not have to have a bad experience like we did .

Really don’t know what to say about tonight as it has blown my mind. I wouldn’t say I was a regular here but me and my family have been here numerous times with no issues at all great food even greater service actually had enjoyable times here talking to staff about the area and some of the history. Not sure what happened tonight but the service well lack there of, we where seated with the wait staff completely ignoring us they finally waited on customers who sat down 10 minutes after us to take their drink order then after a 25 minute wait someone finally took our order. Simple burgers and wings nothing difficult. After an hour wait we finally got our food only to be cold. I would’ve said something but our waiter never showed only to finally show up with the check. My little girl asked for ketchup so I had to go get some for her with the wait staff to ignore us again as I got her some. No refills on our drinks and when time to leave yet again no waiter to bring boxes so I had to go get boxes to pack our leftovers up. He brought the check and left. Maybe it was an off night not sure, there was a few people there but not extremely busy by any means we’ve been there numerous times with it extremely busy with no issues I’m not sure what happened but anyplace that makes my 5 year old upset and cry do’t need my business any longer which sucks cause I really enjoyed this place

Our first visit was today for our anniversary dinner! William and Jordan made it a special afternoon. Wonderful service! My husband is a steak snob. Even he said that was the best ribeye he had ever ate. (and he got the veal parm which he lived but was coveting my steak the entire time). NO steak sauce was needed. It melted in my mouth! Was it pricey yes. Was it worth it YES! Had we went anywhere else, we would have spent more on time and gas. The Dam Steakhouse is a gem for our area. We will be back!

Excellent food. Good portions. A tad pricey for the location. But overall, loved it. Highlight was definitely the cheesecake!

Our first experience. The bartender was really nice. The food is good but not what we were expecting . Cesar salad homemade dressing has anchovies if you like them. The filet was good. The chicken was very dry. Would have liked more flavor in the meat. We wondered if the grill wasn't possibly turned up too high.

Had reservations for 5 at 5:30 on a Saturday night. While waiting for our table to be prepared the host/food runner highly recommended we try the crab soup. We were seated upstairs but our “view” was of a door that lead to what appeared to be an outdoor fire escape. I gather that because we had a fifth person it would have been too much to accommodate us with a view of the river. It would have been possible because it was not crowded. We ordered drinks and were asked if we wanted to have appetizers, 3 of the 5 said they wanted to try the crab soup. We were told they were out of crab soup???, why were we told 5 minutes before to try it? We also wanted to sample a crab cake and ended up having to purchase an entire crab cake entree, $34 to try 2 crab cakes. Two in our party had the rib eye steak, which was the thinnest, most grisly steak they had ever had and a dollop of mashed potatoes and a few sautéed vegetables. A salad was $4.50 extra. Most went home for the dog. Two others had the shrimp and grits, which were good, the grits cake was a bit different, but good and a nice salad was included. The last person in our party had the trout. Again very little in the way of vegetables, tasteless rice pilaf, and 2 hard overcooked and over breaded fillets. Once the breading was removed the fillet alone were fair. They do not have a liquor license and their wine selection is very limited without any description of the wines. So you have no idea if the wine is a Cabernet, Zinfandel, Malbec etc. I gather that our waitress, who was nice, but not very knowledgeable about the food she was serving, felt uncomfortable opening a bottle of wine at the table because she showed it to us, then walked away and came back in a bit with it opened. I gather the beer selection is better, but the one person in our party who drinks beer prefers a simpler beer and ordered a Michelob.
We had driven over an hour to check out this restaurant, that calls itself a Steakhouse which is definitely a misnomer. Doubt we will be back. We certainly do not mind paying high prices like Fries Dam Steakhouse charges, if the food is good and the service is excellent. Neither was true of this establishment. We discussed the positives and negatives the whole way home and came up with an average score of 1.6 (0-4 scale) or a D+ from our experience. If you don’t mind spending $125 - $150 per couple, to check out this restaurant, by all means do. But unfortunately I think that a large majority of people will find that they are very disappointed, like we were and as were many other people who left reviews, that most likely you also will continue your search for a quality restaurant in southwest VA. We are heading the opposite direction to check out Pickle and Ash in Stuart, VA next. Hopefully I will be able to leave a more positive review there. On a side note The Inn at Foster Falls in Max Meadows is excellent and you don’t have to be staying there to dine for an evening.

Parking: Since we had an early dinner reservation we were able to easily navigate parking, but there doesn’t seem to be any parking area for the restaurant, just what you can find on the street.

Steak was overcooked. Roasted vegetables were good. Portions were small. Waitress was wearing stretch pants with holes all in them and what appeared to be bedroom slippers. Tripped coming up the stairs with our food so had to be re-made. Restaurant is very nice with a beautiful view. A bit overpriced for the area.
