Peter Chang Cafe is a popular destination for Szechuan Chinese food enthusiasts. The restaurant offers a variety of dishes, including dry fried eggplant, Dan Dan noodles, crispy pork belly, Szechuan double cooked pork belly, Hunan fish, and Kung chicken entrees. The downtown location is known for its smoked duck, while the Short Pump location has ample parking. Many customers praise the food as delicious, with standout dishes like crispy pork belly and chicken with mushrooms. The food is often described as flavorful, and the restaurant is appreciated for its flexibility with spiciness levels, making it a favorite spot for regular visits. Some reviews mention that the Mongolian Beef and pork fried dumplings are among the best they’ve ever had, with sauce that’s amazing, and service that is quick and friendly. The restaurant also offers several vegetarian options for appetizers and entrees, and the ample parking in the strip mall makes dining convenient. However, some customers note that the flavor has declined over time, with the Sichuan peppercorn numbness less noticeable than before. While most experiences are positive, a few mention that service can sometimes be less attentive, and some dishes, like seafood in a stone pot, may not meet expectations from past visits. Despite these minor issues, Peter Chang Cafe remains a well-loved spot for authentic flavors, unique dishes, and a hot pot experience that many enjoy.
