Incredible traditional Szechuan food! We went with friends from China and this is very close to the authentic dishes and complex flavors you’d find in China. Loved all the spice too.

Scallion pancakes were delicious. I ordered the Mongolian beef , the meat was very tender. Large portions. I enjoyed my food very much. Had to take 2/3 of the beef home, that's how much was given. Definitely worth it 👌

This place is so good. I come here with my family as a good meet up spot in between our houses. The ladies there are so nice and give amazing recommendations. Everything is always good and the fried food is always crispy and delicious ❤

We were in Virginia on vacation and every dish that we tried was sooo delicious and spicy. If you are looking for American Chinese don’t expect it here. They know how to do REAL Chinese food so well. 10/10!! My new favorite restaurant. I will travel back every year just to have a meal at this wonderful restaurant!

This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Richmond. They have a wonderful selection on the menu. They also have many vegan and vegetarian options as well. The staff is great. It's a great space for groups, couples, or an individual. Always recommend to my out of town friends when they visit.

Stood there for 15 minutes with two other people who also ordered to go with no acknowledgment from the staff. We all just ended up walking out without getting our orders. I would never recommend ordering out from this place.

I always love indulging in a succulent Chinese meal, and Cheng Du Restaurant in Richmond continues to be my absolute top choice for both classic favorites and more specialized, authentically prepared Sichuan dishes. It truly stands out as the best Chinese takeout in the city.

Their menu strikes a perfect balance: the familiar staples are consistently delicious, but it’s the Sichuan dishes that really set them apart. The depth of flavor, the proper use of Sichuan peppercorns, the bold heat, and the layered aromatics all speak to a kitchen that knows exactly what it’s doing. Whether it’s mapo tofu with that signature numbing spice, perfectly executed dry-fried green beans, or rich, fragrant braised dishes, everything tastes fresh, vibrant, and crafted with real skill.

Service is quick, portions are generous, and the food holds up beautifully for takeout, no small feat for a cuisine where texture and heat matter. Every order feels like a treat.

If you’re looking for Richmond’s best combination of comforting Chinese classics and truly authentic Sichuan cooking, Cheng Du Restaurant is fantastic. Highly recommend.

Truck driver review
I only eat Szechuan when I want Chinese food. Even the worst Szechuan restaurant is better than most Chinese restaurants around it.

This restaurant is ok. The D37 Cauliflower & Pork Belly in Dry Pot was the low point. I do not recommend. All cauliflower and picture like 6 slices of bacon for the pork belly. Very little Szechuan flavor no mouth numb no heat level option like the othe dry pot dishes.

F87 Fried Rice with Pork was like a 3 -5 lots of meat the flavor was a 3/5. Lacked flavor and rice grains were kinda hard

Pork Egg Rolls (2)4/5 could be crispier no mustard packets with an egg roll should be zero stars but only the best spots give me it.

W102 Sichuan Beef Wheat Noodle Soup excellent flavor right amount of it's too spicy that this soup is supposed to taste like. The noodles were too over cooked.

A3 Scallion Pancakes4/5 crispy outer ring soggy in the middle.

I come here enough that I might come back for the soup and try a different dish

Value for money? I got 2 meal preps and filled up on what was left. A ton of cauliflower was left over. I say it's expensive for what they give you.

Looking for the best Szechuan . The sparrow in Atlanta and chili spot has a few restaurants across the country. But yes u have to call and tell them you want numbing and spice level you are happy with or you get weak flavor.
