If you're willing to suffer noise, poor service and so-so food for a nice view, this is your place! We've been patrons of the Tides Inn for over 40 years so we thought we knew what to expect. Our dining experience on 7/15 was abysmal. The noise from an adjacent private dining room was deafening. The drink service was slow AND THEY CHARGE $3 PER DRINK FOR ICE!!! The food was marginal for the price and the only redeeming quality is the beautiful view up Carter's Creek. No more Tides Inn for us under any circumstances!
Outstanding experience. The hospitality was exceptional from beginning to end. We started with the clams, had the lamb chops and rock fish, and finished with the lemon tart and peach crumble. The wine list has something g for everyone and the bar is skilled. We highly recommend Salt and Meadow.
Celebrated our anniversary at The Tides Inn with our anniversary dinner at Salt & Meadow. Seated 20min early but were offered the option of waiting. Got the best seat in the house, a window table overlooking the docks and treated to a colorful thunderstorm. Cocktails: A perfect martini for me. My wife had the “Northern Neck” (vodka, mint, lime juice and cucumber) which was a bit too tart (different bartender than Peter who made a great one the evening before). Fabulous burrata and green goddess salads. The fresh catch was cobia, served over pearled couscous and buttermilk cream sauce. My wife loved it. I had the seafood paella; mussels, clams, and shrimp over bomba rice. Seafood was cooked delicately, with the taste of the brine still there. The have a nice wine list and we enjoyed a bottle of the Pouilly-Fume' at a very reasonable price. We went into the bar after dinner for a nightcap and to listen to the very talented woman singing and playing guitar. Unfortunately, the place was jammed with too many children and, presumably, their parents. Suggest they should make the rather small bar for adults only and let those with the kiddies go into the card room just off the lobby. Salt & Meadow is a great special occasion restaurant and definitely not a cheap date, but everyone...I mean everyone...treats guests like royalty. Very friendly and very attentive. Dinner there is an event!
The newly reopened restaurant is beautiful, from the interior design and beautiful wood details throughout the restaurant to the amazing view if you snag a seat by the window. The food was good- nothing particularly surprising but everything we ordered was as you would hope for a seafood restaurant by the water. All the pieces are there for a wonderful experience but the service needs some work. It was a little slow, light on knowledge about the menu, and we had to ask for basic things like silverware and bread. Nothing was a huge red flag, but given the price point of the restaurant I expect professional service with extremely knowledgeable staff. Definitely some strains of a newly opened restaurant so I hope those things will improve over time. I will say the bartender was extremely professional, knowledgable, and delivered service that fit the caliber of the restaurant I expected.
Disappointed with the new Salt & Meadow. The restaurant was dirty, the food was tasteless. I had the mushroom parpadelle and it had absolutely no taste. We ordered the calamari to start and they were so tough I could not eat them. Definitely needs more work and more attention to detail.
Wonderful setting and view. Outstanding food and make sure to try the fried oysters! Best anywhere!
We booked a reservation for our 25 th anniversary and were greeted warmly with “Happy Anniversary” which was nice. The server was excellent but we waited for our drinks for nearly 30 minutes after ordering and our dinner took nearly 50 minutes. It was not that busy with many empty tables. Our food was very good and it is a very nice atmosphere.

We would highly suggest the Salt and Meadow Restaurant. The atmosphere was fresh and clean with a nautical flair. The setting was intimate with friendly service. Dessert with a birthday candle (on the house) was a lovely way to end the evening. Highly suggest the Tides twist on an Old Fashioned made with maple syrup!
This is first time back to Tides Inn since the dining/bar area has been re-done and a new chef in place. The new decor is beautiful. Updated, but keeping with the style of the place. Couldn't be better! The re-location of the bar is much better and the wood paneling all around it makes it look like it came out of a swanky men's club. The new menu is super interesting and very well done. The oysters on the half shell come two ways. The "japanese-ish" style, with crunchy seaweed and mignonette gel was really unusual and gave the oyster dish a more interest than just plain oysters. The grilled octopus was done in an interesting way aslo and was very tender. A rarity in the Northern Neck area is a really good wine list which this restaurant now has. Fair mark-up...about 2.5 times on our Bussola Valpoliecella Reposso 2017. My tenderloin was not tender at all, unfortunately. That can happen. But, it came with a tasty reduction type sauce and a generous serving of crab meat on the side of the steak. My peanut pie was not a pie at all but, more of a crustless mousse. It was delicious. Service from CiCi is charming as ever. The runners from the kitchen could use some training. One young man arrived at our table, both his hands occupied with dishes of our main course. He just stood there, waiting for us to clear our places of our previous course ourselves to make room? And put them where? Also, someone needs to check the cutlery as each course is served to avoid having to try to track down someone to get a seafood fork or a steak knife, etc. This was required 3 times. All in all, a good experience. Food was good overall, too.
We enjoyed an excellent dinner at Salt & Meadow on September 15. The view of the water and the newly refurbished dining room and adjoining patio are lovely, the service was professional, cordial and efficient, and the food was delicious - crab cake with an unusual and delectable yogurt sauce, salad with fresh, surprisingly flavorful and crisp greens and beans from the Tides Inn's own garden, superb local rockfish, and perfectly cooked halibut.

Our party of 4 for a birthday celebration was a disappointment. The service was poor. We waited for our drinks to arrive for over 15 minutes. Getting a second round took even longer. The food was overpriced and nothing spectacular for the price. The wine list was limited and extremely expensive. The sauce on the halibut was tasteless, thick and did nothing to enhance the well prepared fish. On the plus side, the fried oysters and the salads were good.
The view of Carter's Creek is fantastic from this restaurant. The food is okay, not great. The shrimp etouffee had a lot of broth and no cream like typical etouffee. The purple rice in the dish was different but tasty. The flank steak was ordered medium rare and came to the table lukewarm and medium well. The restaurant wasn't busy for a Sunday afternoon, so the service was very good and attentive.
Loved the atmosphere and great service from CC the waiter. Oysters were very small but tasty. I had the catch of the Bay (Grouper) and it was delicious. My wife had the fillet and it was good but overcooked. If I had one suggestion it would be to offer more seafood options. I would have LOVED a seafood platter. Overall a nice experience.
Salt and Meadow is one of the most beautifully sited restaurants we've experienced. The view of Carter Creek and environs is simply gorgeous, especially as the sun sets. We enjoyed a delicious meal -- perfectly prepared halibut and a flavorful agnolotti. The rum cake dessert was underwhelming but the buttery rolls and lovely salads were very good. Wine list is extensive. Service was excellent. Ruth was a delight, personable and responsive. The Tides Inn is a pricey resort and their featured restaurant follows suit. For us it was a special treat and we loved every minute.
The food was fantastic, but the service was horrible. The waitress clearly did not want to be at work. We had to ask three people to send her over so we could order drinks on multiple occasions. We had to get up and get our own salt and pepper. We had to ask for streak knives. When it came time for dessert, we were told the kitchen was closed and we could not have dessert. After all that, the waitress had the nerve to bring the check with 20% gratuity automatically added. I adjusted it manually. I waited tables for many years. I hope I never made my patrons the way I felt today.
