This is a lovely restaurant with spectacular views. We had the Filet Mignon. It was excellent as was everything else about our meal. Our server was great. She was personsonable, knowledgeable, and added to the enjoyment of our meal. Highly recommend.
Every aspect of our experience was as close to excellent as it's possible to get. Nearly always there is one (or sometimes more) parts of the evening which are not quite up to the rest. Maybe the vegetables are not so good or a sauce needed more seasoning and so on. But I could not fault the cooking at The Tides. Every aspect was perfect. The waygu shortrib was succulent and perfectly cooked, just melted in the mouth. My wife's fillet steak (tenderloin if you are US)...
This may be the best venue in Virginia. the views of the river, both outside and in, catapult it to the top 3 IMO. This is a 5-star hotel/resort, and best in the spring and fall (so you can fully enjoy the outdoor seating, views, etc. We have done birthday parties, anniversaries, and other special occasions there. The gift shop is amazing, the smells are amazing, and the front room is killer, with piano and plenty of space to take in a book and coffee after dinner.
