We drive all the way from New York to get lunch here. It is one of our favorite restaurants in the country. Amazing food, even more amazing staff, and in a historic setting...it can't be beat! Try the Hot Apple Cider with Apple Brandy. And don't forget the Hoe Cakes, George Washington's favorite for a reason! Thank you! See you next year.

Lunch at The Mount Vernon Inn to catch up with a dear friend on a Wednesday afternoon. It was busy, but not too busy, clean, beautiful table by the window to enjoy the inside and outside views and server was attentive. Once we ordered, our food arrived efficiently, correct temperature, tasty and the portions were excellent (we each took some home). The parking is convenient with a short walk (and free) making it super easy. Definitely will visit again.

The food was edible. Nothing to write home about. My expectations were higher. Maybe the winter is not the best time to visit this restaurant.

Our waiter David was the best. Not only did he take care of our needs but he handled a very difficult situation happening near us with tact , patience and diplomacy.

The service is always friendly. The food is very tasty. The ambiance is colonial of course. This is on the estate where George Washington lived so historic. We love the cornbread, and the mushroom Flatbread is sooo tasty. When they have the risotto I highly recommend it. And the cherry pie and and flourless Chocolate cake is delicious. We come once a year as we pass through Virginia. It's worth going out of our way

Great Christmas decorations. Unfortunately everything else was not so good. The hosts put our family of 5 at a 4 person table, tried to seat another family at the table right next us which was totally blocked by our high chair when we were only 1 of 3 tables sat in the entire empty restaurant. The bartender was our server, forgot the kids drinks, the French fries were cold, our food order came out incorrect and missing items which didn't show up until we were all finished eating. He automatically entered a 20% tip in the payment device and then hovered over our shoulder telling us to just hit “pay” without letting us adjust the tip amount. This was awful. For such a beautiful setting, the kitchen did an awful job, and the front of the house staff did equally as terrible. The management clearly needs improvement. It's obvious why there were only 4 tables sat for the dinner rush from 5:30 to 6:45. With better management and better staff (people and standards), this restaurant should be much busier.

The bread on the sandwiches was dried out, the filling scarcely detectable. Hysterically, the 'bun' for the fried green tomatoes dwarfed the tiny tomato slice. The scones were tiny and dry as the desert sands. The amount of butter was too small for two people with dry/dried out items (I hesitate to call it food). The "sweets" section was similarly tiny and unremarkable. The lemon bars (which ordinarily I adore) had a base of mush, rather than a more substantial shortbread. The tea was nice, the servers did their best despite appearing rushed and short-staffed. The high tea(!) was billed at $70 per person. At $70 per couple it would have been overpriced. Finally, the bill came with 20% gratuity already added--and the asked how much I wanted to tip. I find this offensive for a party of 2. All in all, I suffered so you don't have to! Don't bother.

It used to be more elegant. Tables cloths etc. We were seated in the middle of a room which was a walking corridor on either side of us, so it was not a peaceful setting. The wood table had sticky glass stains on it, just screaming for a tablecloth. The food was good and the server was very nice. But the whole ambiance was like a Disney move 'em in, move 'em out experience. It would be so much nicer with some thoughtful touches like candles (electric) and better table placement.

Previously, we enjoyed a fantastic meal in the smaller dining room of the restaurant. That room was quieter and the tables had tablecloths giving it a nice colonial ambiance. I ordered the steak salad which was delicious. This time we were seated in the large dining room. It was noisier and didn't have the same ambiance. Our meal was interrupted by a fire alarm so we had to vacate the premises for a few minutes until given the all clear. The waitress was nice but forgot to bring our soup and corn bread, perhaps distracted due to the alarm. She kindly brought it later for free. The crabcakes my husband ordered were delicious and highly recommended. A lot of lump crab and very little breading. I ordered the shrimp and grits. The jumbo shrimp were tasty but the grits were terrible. More like mush. Our friends said their meals were ok but overpriced. The evening was disappointing after having a lovely meal there two months prior. Perhaps it was just an off night for the Inn.

If you're visiting Mount Vernon, splurge and dine here. It's a lovely experience. 100% worth the coin you'll spend.

You dine at Mount Vernon for the experience and the peanut soup. Service was great, food ok. We were on a main traffic way for servers and people being seated in the bar area so noise and distractions were frequent. All said would come back.

Made reservations weeks ago but our table was near the kitchen and entryway. Noise level was too high. Food was great!
