Usually have a positive experience here. Today…not so much. I have a BROKEN heel bone. I have a knee scooter for it. We were sitting at a booth and it was out of the way of everyone. Yet for some reason the waitress decided that it was absolutely necessary to be moved. It was literally tucked away and in absolutely no one’s way, hers included. An entire path was clear. That’s $300 worth of medical equipment that she made a liability to the restaurant and if something would’ve happened I would’ve been stuck. If I had been alone I literally would’ve been stuck screaming to get someone’s attention just to go to the bathroom. You DON’T take away someone’s MEDICAL equipment. She didn’t even ask if she could…she just took it.
Not to mention, she violated FEDERAL LAW, specifically the ADA.

I hate to write this kind of review but I ordered a sandwich for my sister the other day. Cold turkey sandwich with Tomatoe mayo cold white bread with potatoe salad and a piece of carrot cake.
I almost fell on the floor.
$25.00 ?????????
The sandwich wish $8.95 if it had 1/4 pound of turkey on it I'd be surprised shaved turkey. 1.04 for 2 very thin sliced Roma tomatoes.
Then the potatoe salad wasn't even a 1/4 of a cup . $3.95.
Not sure how much carrot cake was. But came out to $24 and some change with tax.
When I told my sister she was what the hell.
She said when she goes there she gets sandwich combo which includes potatoe salad. She doesn't remember being charged xtra for tomatoe either. Especially a dollar 4cent fir 2 VERY THIN SLICED Roma tomatoes.
I asked the lady at counter if she knew my sister before ordering after some explaining she said yes she remembered. So I depended on her giving me what my sister ordered usually since she tries to go there alot not take me to the cleaners.
I don't go there for this reason . When I get a sandwich I can see paying extra for fries but now they even charge for potatoe chips. That why I don't go there. I did use to like there pickles now they don't taste like they use to so I tell her forget pickles.
IM SORRY THIS ISNT NY CITY .
ITS A RUN DOWN OLD SHOPPING CENTER TO PAY THESE KIND OF PRICES TO ME IS A RIP OFF. I GUESS THATS WHY I DONT GO THERE ANYMORE!
My sister likes it but she can have it.
I guess I'm just warning people to be prepared for spending alot when you go there.

A great staple of NN.
You must have a piece of the homemade cheesecakes, several flavors to choose from. Amazing sandwiches and desserts.

I’m developing a crush on this place. Their menu has some SERIOUS sandwich magic. Smithfield ham sliced so perfectly thin you can see light though it, added with shaved cheese just in the right proportion to be slightly salty, savory, umami, and crunchy thanks to the crisp lettuce. I had my Felicia on pumpernickel and wish I’d gotten two because I’d have had the second for dinner. Don’t get me started on the coconut cake! I’ve been obsessed with coconut cake and theirs is OFF THE HOOK. I opened the box (it was heavy so I was already excited) to find this moist, dense cake WITH COCONUT IN IT! But wait there’s more…look at that frosting. OMG buttercream topped with shaggy coconut like a weeping willow covered in fresh, light snow. LOOK at that fat stripe down the middle! Yeah. It’s as good as you want it to be. ❤️ it’s always the out of the way little places that pack the surprises. They have an unassuming little storefront in a strip shopping center that belies the sandwich delights and insane cake within. Really nice folks there too. This one is a keeper.
Debating about making it a weekly treat.

I grew up going to Danny's as a kid in the 70's. Very nostalgic being there as an adult. Can't beat the rubin. Loved that they still had pickles on the table when we sat down.

I love this place. I had the best dill pickles I have eaten in a long time. I ordered a Reuben sandwich and the corn beef was totally off the hook and the sauerkraut was amazing too. I have never had any sandwich any where beat the flavor and taste of that Reuben. Wow!!!! I will never forget that meal!!!!!!
Parking: Plenty of open parking in the Warwick Shopping Center parking lot!!!

Good Reuben. Potato salad was also good. Prefer my bread grilled with some butter on grill and Swiss on top end. Iced Tea with lemon was GREAT.

Refused service to us because I, a 93% disabled US Army Veteran, had with me a VA prescribed service dog for PTSD, migraines, anxiety attacks and panic attacks. My service dog is trained with the organization my VA doctor specified. I am prescribed to have him by Dr. Lazenby, of the Hampton VA, 24/7. After being seated we were confronted by a very large and threatening lady who was not just a little bit rude. Not just a little bit rude. It is a shame because this place is within walking distance, even for me with my mobility issues and we try to support local business. We had come here for take out during the pandemic, twice, each time met with the same rudeness by the same robust lady, as though she was mad at the world and we were the cause of the world. Picture someone with a gleaming brow and flys who makes you feel like you didn't do your homework you totally forgot about. At the time we thought it was the pressure of the pandemic but that has passed. Her brow and flys hasn't. I would suggest to the owners of Danny's Deli, the ones who would be fined, and not the rather heavy set lady or the sweet grandmother at the cash regeister, take a look, with their legal advisers, at the ADA, the federal law that protects Americans with disabilities. The penalties for refusing service to people with service animals is rather steep. I mean down payment on 2 houses steep. At the very least, it isn't very thankful to veterans that have served and are now in need of constant aid for their injuries. Not to worry, we got take-out from the local Chinese down the street (rather American situation don't you agree?). Turned away from an "American Deli" but served by a Chinese take-out because I'm a disabled US veteran with a service dog. What a "Thank you for your service." But I remember their pickles were good at Danny's Deli; kind of apropos don't you think? What a pickle.

Danny’s Deli is a Newport News landmark. The food and service are consistently great, with that home town touch. The home made deserts are spectacular!
