Great hibachi. Food was great and the chef was very entertaining. The atmosphere was great. If we lived in the area, we would definitely visit again.

Hayashi was an unexpected delight in Newport News! Kayla was a phenomenal bartender, her cocktails were tasty and refreshing after a long day. Compliments to the sushi chef, I had the toro sashimi app and the chef's choice sushi plate, and they were well presented and delectable! And Rachel, the manager, was warm and welcoming, and presented the coziest of atmospheres. I couldn't recommend Hayashi any higher!

Hayashi is always fun to go with friends or family. Menu has changed a bit but still very good.

Good variety, fresh, great taste, nice presentation, nice environment
I usually enjoy coming to this hibachi spot and have been here several times for both lunch and dinner. The food and experience are good, but I noticed the prices have really gone up — not just for dinner, but now even for the lunch specials too.
Before, a shrimp dinner was around $23–$24, and the lunch special used to be $15–$17. Now the lunch shrimp is basically $20–$25, which is almost the same as the dinner price. And for lunch, you don’t even get both soup and salad — just one. The portion is smaller, which is fine for lunch, but the price jump doesn’t make sense.
I wouldn’t mind paying a few extra dollars if it felt like an upgrade, but it feels like I’m paying more for the same (or less). After tax and the 18% gratuity, I spent almost $27 for what was basically rice, vegetables, and six pieces of shrimp. That’s dinner pricing for a lunch-sized portion.
The food was okay, but I honestly left disappointed. I’ve always liked this place, but at these prices, it’s getting hard to justify coming back.

I love this place. Friendly wait staff. The Cooks are outstanding and fun. The menu is excellent...reminded me of being stationed on Okinawa. Go earlier than 6 pm on a weekday for a better experience or get a reservation for Friday or Saturday

I regret not taking any pictures of the food. I’ve been here twice and both times were wonderful. This last time was for my nieces birthday and she absolutely loved it. The cook, atmosphere, everything was awesome. She loved it, I loved it, everything was perfect. I’m looking forward to my next visit.

The food was really good and I appreciated how simple ordering was as this was my first time getting hibachi. The server and chef were very attentive and polite. All in all I had a great meal.

Upon entering, the two young ladies at the front were pleasant and very helpful. Unfortunately, the interaction shifted when the front-end manager approached, abruptly directed one of the staff members, and told me to sit at the bar. Several staff members who witnessed this encounter apologized for the manager’s rude behavior, and even the back-end manager came out to apologize as well. I made a point to advocate for the staff member who was disrespected, as the atmosphere created by that manager’s actions was unfair to both staff and guests. Aside from that one unpleasant interaction, the rest of the staff were fabulous—welcoming, attentive, and professional. The food itself was delicious and beautifully plated, which made the overall experience much more positive.

Absolutely best sushi I've had on the Peninsula! Love the Jason and Black Tobiko rolls. My son also really enjoys the duck entree if sushi is not your thing.

had such a great experience at Hayashi Hibachi! From the moment we walked in, the staff was welcoming and attentive. The chefs are incredibly talented and make the entire meal fun and interactive with their cooking show right at the table. The food was outstanding—everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The portions were generous, and I left completely satisfied.

Didn't have hibachi, regular dinning. It wasn't the best service and the manager tried to gaslight us saying the NY strip was a fillet. The steak was a little tuff as well.
