I made a reservation for a Saturday night, and when we went, they weren't open. There was no notice posted, no message on an answering machine, and no apparent reason they would close. It was within the posted hours of operation. I was really looking forward to trying it.

Gracias!! I will go ahead and add to the 5 star list of reviews. I saw all the 5 star reviews and thought no way... but yes way yes!! My husbae wanted a fine dining experience and we love Mexican so this restaurant looked like a fine choice. I found this suggestion on OpenTable and booked the reservation within 24 hours. Our first time at this restaurant... I understand this restaurant opened only four months ago. Our experience last night was exceptional. Tender filet the right amount of spices. The fundido as a starter was right on time. The low lighting and intimate setting makes for a beautiful date night. Currently they're only open on nights... Fri to Sun. Look for the white steps near Grilled Cheese Bistro. Outdoor and indoor seating is available. The cocktails are on point. I love a simple margarita and their original version was tasty. I chose 1800 and it was superb! I highly recommend you check them out. The pricing is $$ so make sure your pockets are right because your bill can easily reach $$$. The staff was pleasant and personable the team up front appeared to work well. We opted to dine inside to bask in the beautiful ambience. The space is super narrow but during our dining time maybe 3 other parties were dining and for about 20 minutes it was only us. The vibe was crazy sexy cool and I loved it!! We're already planning to return soon. Street parking and garage parking is available. A definite jewel on Granby Street! Have fun and enjoy life!!

The food was fresh, and deliciously different! The staff was attentive and pleasant. Though the restaurant is very small, the tables were well spaced- we didn't feel crowded or cramped. Margaritas were top notch. We will definitely be back!

I am literally sitting here right now leaving this review because the Alebrije staff and chef DESERVE! Do not walk, RUN to this restaurant. Outside is open. Get vaccinated, bring a sweater if you get cold in the air conditioning and COMEHERE. ITS SO GOOD. The food is so good and so flavorful. Everything tasted amazing. Please get the Queso Fundido. I did not get a chance to photograph it because I ate it too quickly. The margaritas are perfect. The atmosphere is so beautiful and tranquil. I cannot say enough good things. I am here visiting f from Maryland and I wish I could drop Alebrije Mexican Kitchen directly in my city!

Unbelievable experience all around! From the cocktails to dessert and everything in between, by far the most outstanding Mexican cuisine we’ve had. This hidden gem won’t be a secret for long!

Elevated, fresh and carefully created menu. Delicious drinks ( although cocktails are a bit pricey). Service was awesome- incredibly welcoming, very cool space and the food was wonderful.

Locale davvero carino, con un ottima cucina e un servizio cortese! I piatti erano buonissimi. L'unica critica che posso fare era al filetto troppo cotto, ma il resto era eccellente. Da evitare l'espresso, costosissimo (7$!) e annacquato

VERY tiny restaurant downtown. It's best if you make reservations before heading there, but it's not required. We visited without a reservation, and we were seated outside which wasn't bad. The restaurant is named after a traditional Mexico City folk art sculpture made of paper mache and features colorful fantastical monsters. The ones at the restaurant are the more modern Oaxaca wooden sculptures based on real animals. The food is mostly seafood, but all soooo good! Several cocktails available, as well as, Mexican beers. The alebrije is like a liquid pico de gallo with jalapeños on the rim to give a spicy sensation to the lips. Definitely worth a visit if walking down Granby just south of the Neon District.

Awesome private dining type experience, very small and intimate, impeccable service. Food was delicious and definitely not your average Tex mex. A little pricey but we'll worth it for a special date night out! Will return soon.

Our dining experience was exceptional—The restaurant is one of Norfolk's most valuable gems. The menu is high-Mexican cuisine...and quite different from the routine Tex-Mex variety. Our dishes were expertly prepared and served. We simply could not have had a more pleasant dining experience.

This is by far the best Mexican food you will eat on the strip.
