This is our third year returning for Thanksgiving buffet. Food not as good as in years past. Less seafood. Food not replenished. As quickly as before. Less selection. Some dishes were completely out and not replenished. There were no knives. To be found. Our waitress was lovely though.
We went to Grain for Thanksgiving as I had read that their buffet was the best in town. They had live music and an incredible buffet spread! I'm not a huge fan of turkey so I was pleasantly surprised to see oysters, shrimp, prime rib, and salmon on the menu. Their dessert carts were extremely assorted with pies, cheesecake, and pastries. The views of the city from the rooftop location were incredible. The decor was elegant and festive. I will definitely be coming back again next year.
Excellent choice for Thanksgiving Buffet. The price they charged was great for the many choices they had except for the service charge that gets automatically added to your bill. We served 0urself since it was a buffet so only saw a server for a beverage. We had to wait about a half hour to be seated because they had us at a high top table so next time I know to request a lower table. Some of us could not do the high top seating. Now knowing all of this we would definitely do it again.
We had a lot of fun at the Thanksgiving buffet. There were plenty of choices for everyone - Turkey, salmon, a huge seafood table, prime rib. There were also tons of deserts - in smaller sizes, so we were able to try a LOT of deserts. I would definitely go again. On the downside, I would not describe this as gourmet, so if you are looking for that this might not be your best choice. The only other issue, was I wished they had more green Veggies and or healthy veg, but their salads were good and fresh. Also it was decorated for Xmas and they had heaters on the outside rooftop bar if you wanted to go out and take in the beautiful view.
Our family of 4 had a great time. The live music, the food was delicious, so many options and different types of desserts.
We go every Thanksgiving for the buffet. Food was great as always but for the 1st time the service was fair at best. We had to constantly search out our server. Also...new this year was a $35 service charge. No warning...not cool.
Holiday buffet big disappointment and not worth it. Normal experience is usually good. Would NEVER do holiday buffet again.
First of all the the seating was gawd awful. Sofa seat that sat low to a regular table, table was up to my chest. I was surprised that others agreed to sit so low. Music, too loud. Maybe next time let folks know; “Hey, we're offering Thanksgiving Brunch, with no decorum, wear your old jeans, (graffiti) t-shirts, no need to give it any thought. Oh and by the way, The Grain has great food. But basically, it's Thanksgiving dinner in the middle of a bar. Service was excellent .
The prime rib starting only offered rare cuts of meat. Would have liked to have been able to get a medium cut. Myself and a large amount of others went to the omlete station ti get it cooked a little longer. Would like to have maybe mashed potatoes and rice as choices.. I came there last year but it was during breakfast at 9am this time 5pm
Would have appreciated if they could share the buffet venue. I wasn't expecting brunch menu at 4pm. Even for that the food items were okayish not worth 40$ . Area where food was being served wasn't kept clean.

If you're thinking about going to Grain for a buffet event like Mother's Day brunch, don't. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration. We paid over $100 for what turned out to be one of the worst buffet experiences we've ever had. Most of the food was either empty or ice cold. The carving station? A joke. The only thing that was warm... was the yogurt. THE YOGURT YOU GUYS. Drinks took forever to come out—how does it take 15+ minutes to make a classic mimosa? Our server was at least very honest about the bar being behind on orders, but what a tough spot to put your staff in. No sense in complaining to them either or asking for a manager or something crazy like that since it looked like they had help to go around. The live music? Way too loud for the space, and the guy's commentary was oddly raunchy for a Mother's Day event. Read the room, man. I'm sure their regular menu might be fine, but if you're not a buffet place, don't try to be one. It was painfully clear they couldn't handle it. Grain really relies on the rooftop view to distract from the fact that the food, service, and overall vibe were seriously lacking. Next time, we'll go somewhere that doesn't try to coast on aesthetics alone.
I've been here before but this time we did not have a great experience. There was barely any food at the buffet the entire time we were there. Drinks were slow and the ambience was terrible.
I love going to the Grain brunch. My reservation helped us go right in and we had a 5 min wait before we went to our table. However, next Mother's Day, I am going on Saturday. It was too crowded and the buffet was empty on one side. I was able to get few things, but it took about 20-25 min before fresh breakfast food came out. Things like dessert didn't get replenished until it was about time to leave. It was just the wrong day to go.
Great food with many choices, reasonably priced, great setting and staff - a superb choice!
This was my first dining experience at Grain. I had reserved a table for their Christmas Buffet. I must say, I am very disappointed and will not be returning! The food was not very good at all! The beef and chicken were unacceptably tough, and the salmon was dry! Some side dishes were under-seasoned, others were salty! Also, there was not an adequate selection of desserts! The entertainment was atrocious! Just because we're in Virginia, doesn't mean that all diners only want to hear Country Music(complete with yodeling)!! It was Christmas Day and he didn't even perform any Christmas Carols!! Ridiculous!! It would have made more sense for management to book a singer/musician that had a broader, more sophisticated range and appeal!! Just sloppy!! I found no redeeming qualities at Grain! It was overall, a dismal dining experience not worth the price! I will not be returning!
