I got the gumbo and was sadly disappointed. It was flavorless the rice was way overcooked as well as the shrimp. It was very soupy, celery crunchy. I added salt and it was still flavorless. My friend got the steak she said it needed salt too. It was all so bland. The place looked cool tho.

This is the restaurant that I ever enjoyed everything. Food was unique and had amazing taste, service was excellent, chocolate desert, I do not know how to describe it! So delicious, yet not heavy! It is so tasteful that you will never forget the taste. I have been living in the US for 23 years, the best restaurant I ever enjoyed everything I had. Syd’s is a rad spot in downtown Norfolk. We were traveling through and docked right up the street waiting out a weather window, and so pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this gem. We ended up eating there 2 nights in a row and would have gone 3 if he was open Sundays. This eclectic restaurant has delicious food, great vibes and excellent service. Kat was our server on the second night and she is a wonderful human, we ended up chatting with Syd after our meal one night and learned that he created or collected all the funky and classic art inside the joint. I would highly recommend you come check this radical and delicious place out!
Food and atmosphere is amazing! This is not your average restaurant with cooks! Don’t go Here if you’re a fussy eater and always want to change the food because you don’t like some of the ingredients! This man is a genius with food! Trust the chef, and enjoy food like you’ve never had before!

Best to make reservations, because the dining room is small. I ordered the seldom-available crab cakes: absolutely the best crab cakes I’ve ever eaten! 100% crab, no fillers. I can’t wait to eat there again!
