Had another fabulous meal at the FishPig Cafe last night in downtown Norfolk. The seafood dishes are always beautifully prepared and interesting. We love the quirky cozy vibe of the unique space, and the staff is wonderful! Absolutely one of the best restaurants in Norfolk! A hidden gem.
I would rate 3.5 stars if I could but rounding up to 4. Service was excellent and location and ambience met the mark. Food was simply ok. While the flavor wasn’t terrible, the gumbo was soupy. Was the rue rushed? There wasn’t a lot of depth. The crust of the sausage pie was insanely dry. Used to hit Stove fairly often way back when and the food was much better there. The hot sauce, however, was on point. I’ll try a different entree next time I’m here.
Wow what a meal! We were fortunate enough to go during gumbo week, and I’m so glad that we did! I had the quail and sausage gumbo, and it was delicious. Husband had the yellowfin tuna special and spoke high praises. Our server was wonderful, and very accommodating when we realized we needed to cut our evening shorter than expected. We got the ‘Salty Dog’ chocolate torte to-go for dessert, and oh my goodness, it was incredible! We will be back!
