Good food, sometimes slow. Definitely recommend the bean dip, the street corn and the Mexican pizza appetizers. My husband swears their taco is the best around!

As a Texan, I love Tex-Mex, but I found this restaurant disappointing. The location is great, it is located on the first floor of a shopping center in historic Occoquan. It was too cold when we visited but it has outdoor seating that gives you a good view of the river. We sat inside and it has a small town Tex-Mex vibe with some interesting decor. They sat us right in front of the window that had no blinds, so I got the sun right in my eyes the whole meal. The food was just okay. They started us off with chips and salsa, which was good enough since it was free. I got the margarita because it was $6, it wasn't too strong but I could taste the alcohol. For my entree, I got the marinated-charbroiled breast of chicken. The chicken was really dry and didn't have much flavor, I wish it has some kind of sauce on top. The refried beans were a little cool, the cheese on top didn't even melt. Overall, the experience was okay.

Amazing food. Sat out on the patio. Lots of room to social distance.

We first started going to the Bar J some forty (yes, 40) years ago when it shared a concrete block building with Booth Feed down on U.S. 1. It looked scary (but wasn't) and the food was wonderful. We got to know the owners and followed the Bar J all over Prince William and south Fairfax Counties for years as it was forced to move by highway expansion and such, or opened new locations . The address changed but the food didn't. We thought it was gone for good when both the original owners had passed on and the last location at US 1 and Rt. 123 closed some years ago. NOW IT'S BACK and the original recipes are still the same--it's like finding a long-lost family member. Don't cheat yourself, GO. And order my favorite, the pork burrito, when you're tired of chili concoctions. Welcome back, Bar J!

Only one person in the front of the house. He was utterly swamped by only 2 bar guests and 2 tables. Took 20 min to get a drink and 45 minutes before I was able to order my food. The young man was very pleasant, but had no training. The Mexican Hot Burrito was mediocre, the beef had absolutely no seasoning. Not sure what was hot about it.

Was thinking they just served chili, but was pleasantly surprised by how many Mexican dishes they had. It's no Don Sebas, but burrito was large and filling.

I thought this placed specialized in chili. I ordered a chili mac. I've never had chili like this before in my life. It was dry seasoned ground beef on top of spaghetti noodles with parmesan on top. No joke. It was so freaking dry. Awful and deplorable that a restaurant would serve this and charge $14!

Service was great but that's it. The food is beyond bland. Street corn was watery and not good. Cincinnati Chili with beans in a bread bowl... maybe three beans in the whole thing. Flavorless and had cold spots so it was warm at best. Texas burger was over spiced and unappetizing. Sidewinder fries were good. This is the second time I've given this place a chance and won't be back.

I have been to Bar J's several times in the last year while visiting family. I am from NY and visiting a place like Bar J's with entertainment as good as Shane Jones with good food and service makes the trip worthwhile even without visiting family and even in spite of it at times. LOLDr Arthur

Met my sister and her husband who drove from Mt. Airy, Maryland. We drove from Hanover County, VA. Opened at 11 am, very friendly lady met us and served drinks and took order. Short 15-20 minute catching up news and our lunch was there. Ticket for 4 was $70, we tipped $15 and left. Tour our neat little town on the Occoquan Creek. Plan another visit.
