What a hidden gem! My husband and I were in the area visiting and stumbled upon this spot by pure luck. The hostel manager was very professional and knew the area well. She gave great recommendations on local spots to visit. The beds were super comfy and the pillows felt like sleeping on a cloud. The breakfast was, by far, the best we've had in a long time. Highly recommended the shrimp and grits or eggs benedict. Both were phenomenal. Will definitely be returning guests.

The bathroom:There is a full bathroom with a comfortable shower. There are plenty of towels, shampoo, conditioner, and soap.Rooms: The room is about 9x12 which is an okay size if you are packing light. There is enough room for extra luggage on top of the entertainment council. There is a television and you just have to sign into the app of your choice (disney, hulu etc).Noteworthy details: Around 6:30 AM a noticeable rumble erupted from the ceiling but it turned out to be the a.c. unit from the neighboring room. Bring ear plugs.

Not sure how this hotel receives so many high marks. The 1 night stay with a military discount was $200. Our room was on the 3rd floor, no elevator, no refrigerator, no ice machine on the floor, no vending machines, your tv is located in the closet, and it’s a 19 inch computer tv, no cable and we were on the street side so you can hear everything. We could hear the people playing and drinking in the pub across the road. The place was clean, the shower had hot water. Would not recommend this hotel to others

10/10 experience! We stayed for just a night on 12/23/23. We were passing through and searching for a cute little place to stay. This hotel was like out of a hallmark movie. It’s so clean and cute and the bed and pillows were soooo comfortable! It’s just an adorable place! We had breakfast there in the morning and Cheyenne was wonderful! She made our experience even more special. I hope to make it back here someday! Thanks so much for a wonderful stay.

Such a lovely boutique hotel in the heart of Onancock. The restaurant is excellent. I highly recommend The Charlotte.

I would definitely stay here again. Staff were helpful and accommodating, even keeping the bar and kitchen open a little later than normal because a group of us were having a great time ordering experimental smoked drinks! Their chef was experimenting with some smoked cherry bourbon ice cream, which was amazing!!! And the bartender made me an excellent strawberry, basil smash - perfectly muddled and balanced with the right amount of sweetness. The building itself has character -- its old -- but the rooms are clean, well restored, and the bed was extremely comfortable. It is an old building so when they are full, I imagine it might be a little echo-y. We were on the 3rd floor, though, and had an excellent night's sleep with no noise issues. I might be a little biased as my Aunt owns an old home with very similar walls, doors and floors and it just reminded me of her homeAlso - in walking distance of galleries, shops and restaurants!Food & drinks: The bartender on the night we stayed made a delicious strawberry, basil smash - I think she called in "pink drink". She is into experimenting and creating new concoctions - if you are into cocktails, definitely stop at the hotel bar. It's small, but her drinks packed a punch :)Noteworthy details: It is an older building. It has been very nicely restored. I love the historic charm - but if you are expecting ultra-modern, this isn't it. The bathroom is large, with a nice shower there are small flatscreens in the rooms, but really... why are you watching it and not at the speakeasy up the street or downstairs at the bar?!?

Supper Oct 1st 2023. The NY Strip with Red Wine Sauce was grilled perfectly. The restaurant took cash! Unfortunately, even in Michelin Star establishments, beef is always served with a side. No chef, I repeat, no chef makes mashed potatoes worth $8. With that said, I'll must keep the rating at 4 stars.Breakfast Oct 1st, 2023. This review is of the restaurant only. This was a walk in for breakfast. The food is superior to anything I've eaten in Onancock and I've eaten at most restaurants and bars in the area. I had the Eggs Benedict with fresh fruit as the side. Absolutely delicious. The waitress was neat and polite and it was clear that she had been taught to serve in a more up-scale fashion. The service was impeccable. The atmosphere of the small dining room was that of a quiet place to take your partner for a romantic dinner. My only complaint was that the restaurant was not prepared to accept cash for the meal. Cash is king! I will return for supper tonight and hope this is resolved so I can give "The Charlotte" the five star review that it deserves.Food & drinks: See the review.Noteworthy details: See the review.

We were visiting Onancock for the first time and stayed at the Charlotte Hotel during our trip. The staff was warm, personable and were very knowledgable about the area. We loved learning about the history of the hotel and loved all of the artwork, which happens to be painted by the owner. Dont let the wooden bed frame fool you. The bed was comfortable and we slept great. Its a short walk to the wharf, where you can enjoy live music or hop on the ferry to Tangier. (Be sure to make a reservation for the ferry ;) The highlight for SURE.. was the dining at the hotel! From the delicious oatmeal in the morning, to the amazing choices of entrees and desserts for dinner.. everything was A+. The chef even came over to talk to us about the menu. Oooo don't forget to try the ice cream! Homemade and a cant miss. Overall a wonderful experience and a sweet home away from home. Would absolutely stay again when we visit!Nearby activities: Close to the wharf and shops.Walkability: Central locationFood & drinks: Amazing menu and the dining experience is first class.

This is based specifically on the hotel. This would float between a one and a two star, and since we were heading on vacation, we will bump it up. We had two Queen Rooms (booked them in April) and I got a confirmation that said TWO QUEENS. The day before, I get an email that says ONE QUEEN and ONE FULL...I questioned it by calling. Person answering said they'd check and call me back and said someone there wanted to stay longer (???? Is that my issue). They said it should be fixed and would call back. The next thing I did was get and email saying TWO QUEENS. Jump to the next day when we show up. It sayd TWO QUEENS on what I paid for and what I signed. We go up to our rooms, and yes, you guessed it, I got two different sized beds (yea...we are mental and actually measured because it didn't look quite right and we were suspicous. Asked the manager, she kind of didn't say anything. We're on a vacation, i didn't want to ruin it, I just let it go). Part 2. Again we have two rooms. In the one room the AC didn't work (90 degree day out...was hot). Asked at 5pm could someone look at it. Magager came and looked very promptly....said lets give it a minute. as it is just turning on. The other room we booked AC was fine, but ok...we can give it a try. An hour goes by. Asked at 6pm. She came up, messed with the remote. Nothing changed. We walked around the town a bit. Came back and still was like roasting potatoes in the room. It's now 9pm. I asked her, she came up felt that it was hot, said she was going to call someone (the owner). She didn't come back. Honestly, now I'm feeling a bit miffed because this really should have been dealt with hours ago. I went down at 9:30....was kind of fed up...and I see the manager not on the phone but doing a duty for the restaurant. I contemplated opening the window and just dealing with it, but the AC units (like central AC units) are blowing right outside the window, so that isn't an option). Anyway, I go down and am now wondering what is being done if anything? I at that point asked to have my money refunded. I'll just drive to VA Beach and find something else. This just wasn't going to work. Only then did things happen where she called the owner of the hotel. With this, the chef of the restaurant had to get a window unit from some back room and give it to us. I overheard a conversation where she was talking at the hotel bar to the owner where the air conditioning in this room is tied to another room above it or something (???) which is irrelivant honestly. Where we supposed to ask another guest at the hotel to turn on their AC so we could have it? The whole thing was strange, and really, I shouldn't have had to ask three times for AC. It kind of put our day away on ice (pun intended). I cannot recommend this hotel. It left a bad taste in my mouth from the beginning. I'll generously give 3 stars because the atmosphere of the town seems like a great place.

Onancock is a charming walkable town. Highly recommend this small hotel. There is a restaurant at the hotel for the evening meal. The morning coffee is delicious. Close enough to the wharf to walk, as well as to a bakery, an Irish pub, and a bar.
