My daughter and I found time to meet for breakfast and decided to try Yoolks on us on Portsmouth Blvd. We walked in and felt warm and welcomed. We were met by our waitress Makayla who arrived with fresh water, a smile and the best personality. We loved the quality and quantity of the food. The service from our waitress and other staff members is what screams great customer service. The music was top tier. The vibe was perfect. I would rate 10/10 to anyone. Thank you Makayla and everyone. 😊

My best friend and I spent about four hours here, and everything was excellent—the food, service, and atmosphere. Our young server was a breath of fresh air, and the staff was warm and professional throughout.
During our visit (around 1:00pm on Sat, Nov. 8), a young lady at the table of five became disruptive. She stood up, loudly summoned a staff member, and complained about service and then the food. We watched the team respond calmly and offer solutions, but she refused to pay (which was the goal) and left. The rest of her group stayed and paid their tabs.
I’m noting this to highlight how well the staff handled a difficult situation. This place is a gem—highly recommend.

I went there with a group of colleagues and to try and give the small business a chance. Sadly this is not a small business this is a small business with a big business mentality. 16% gratuity automatically added and the service is absolutely horrific
If I could have made this a zero Stars I would have. Everyone in our group was disappointed and has issues with our orders that took 2 hours to get on a lunch meeting.

You would think that a place that is called yolks on us can make eggs correctly they are really bad. 16% automatic gratuity???
Small businesses berate large businesses for charging a gratuity... this place has two locations and has the audacity to charge a 16 percent automatic gratuity. How about you build your brand first before you even think about charging an automatic gratuity.
That in itself is a huge turn off for me and any of my colleagues. We spent 35 minutes waiting to even have our order taken but it definitely gave us enough time to have a 35-minute discussion about the stupid grindy sign on the door about automatic gratuity.
You add that gratuity when your service is impeccable and your food is amazing not when your people have to wait 35 minutes for someone to even come take their order and then a waiter to only come back every once in a blue moon to check on you. There's a reason why larger businesses can add a gratuity and it's expected of the customers and it's okay from the customer standpoint but when you are doing that in a business like this, it doesn't even make sense.
A 16 that is earned over time and something that makes sense to the customers you have literally no reason to have a 16 added to every check when you're not even giving a 16% gratuity service

There food is nasty I just bought over easy eggs and steak for my husband the steak was salty and the eggs was not cook right at all and whoever makes the collard greens should not be making them no more the greens is so vingery

So I only went this time to confirm that the first time was not a fluke. It saddens me because I was with the reporter on the opening day advocating for this place. I'm also a neighbor to this restaurant so from my backyard I can see them from open to close. Employees sitting out there smoking cigarettes with their aprons on is unacceptable and disgusting.
Over easy eggs made horribly one again. Same complaint 2 years later.
Steak was so extremely salty had to throw the breakfast away. I simply can't believe how much seasoning was on the steak. I would have been in the hospital had I finished that steak.
The only thing I could eat was the toast which was too thin.
I thought something had possibly changed for the better since the grand opening but sadly it is worse... MUCH worse. To add a 16% automatic gratuity for food this disgusting, service so unfriendly, and leaves me questionable about what's actually going on in that kitchen. Food looks and tastes prepared and stored for days, not cooked to order.
I really only went because the places across the street from my house but I would rather drive 50 miles before eating at this place again. Village Inn has won my business back permanently.
This place needs to close before it kills somebody.

So good! Keyona was an amazing server and so sweet! I had the Cornbread beef hash and grits, my wife had the Red Velvet Pancakes which she LOVED. So excited to be somewhere where the grits were cooked correctly!

They charge a 4% service charge for credit card purchases and add an automatic gratuity. The food was ok, but I don’t appreciate businesses that tac on service charges for credit cards…. And then to auto add a gratuity and then ask for more gratuity on the credit card slip? It’s just all too much. We won’t be back.

Charging $17 for a single catfish fillet is crazy enough, but to charge that much and serve a nugget sized piece is shameful.
