A bit noisy but not overwhelming. Food was great! Bike for dessert was different but really, really good. My wife does not eat much sweet but loves this!

My partner and I had a fantastic experience at Alewife. Love to support Mid Atlantic/Easern seaboard seafood. Our waiters were fantastic and very personable and helpful. Great cocktail menu well executed. We loved everything we had…oysters, salad, catfish sandwich for me and Arctic char for partner. All made in innovative and delicious ways. Highly highly recommend Alewie.

A friend of mine and I were looking for places to get oysters. I had heard of Alewife being touted as one of the better “foodie” restaurants in Richmond. And that is absolutely true. They are located in Church Hill, so parking can be a little dicey but it’s one of the best neighborhoods for an after-dinner walk.

- absolutely excellent. We shared a dozen oysters, which came with a spicy yuzu sauce that was incredible. They rotate menu items and sauces. My friend ordered the scallops for dinner and I ordered the skate wing, which came over a Korean-inspired stew. We had their take on a sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was also excellent. The flavors were like nothing I had had before. If I could rate higher than 5 I would.

- Also excellent. I had never eaten skate before, and our server gave me instructions on how to properly eat it. Servers were kind and attentive. No notes!

. There’s nothing particular special about the decor. Chairs are metal, tables are wood. It’s not trying to be pretentious.

I will certainly be back!

Alewife is the perfect place for a slightly elevated evening out! The food is delicious and the atmosphere is laid-back but clean and slightly elevated. It’s a nice quiet spot for a really good meal. We got the clams as a starter then I got an oyster Poboy. Everything was absolutely amazing.

The appetizer sampler board was so ample and delicious that I could have easily eaten it for my whole meal. White beans with mushrooms, fried clam strips, squash, and more were out-of-sight delicate and delectable. Conscious of sustainable seafood, I chose the Arctic char over cabbage, squash, and golden raisins. Again, one of the best entrees ! have ever eaten. Alewife has won awards for its excellence, and I understand why. A must try.

We had a wonderful experience at dinner last night. Food was great, group of 4 and we tried a good portion. of the menu. We had oysters, crab claws, beet salad, clam strips, the char, and the pork. It was all really good, the clam strips should just open thier own food truck and call it a day. So good. I will say that the most amazing part of dinner was our phenomenal server - Karen. Incredibly helpful with suggestions- food, wine, she knew everything. She was professional while being warm and easy to talk to. None of us had been there before and all of us spent years in hospitality, this was always a spot we wanted to try. I also noticed that all of the staff were polite and friendly even when you were unintentionally in the way in the restroom line. All around a top knotch customer service experience.

Great location, genuine crowd, fantastic food. Can't ask for more!
I had their sweet pepper and ceviche special, as well as the skate wing. Both were phenomenal. My partner got the fish sandwich and said it was one of the top 5 sandwiches of their entire life. Our cocktails were delicious.
We made a reservation a day before but called to see if it could be moved earlier. The hostess was incredibly friendly and gave us a couple of options.
10/10 will come back again!
