Went to hardywood this weekend for the bluegrass festival and it was such a good time! So much fun that I forgot to take pictures! It’s the perfect venue in the city for an event like that. The green space with fire pits is lovely, and they have the perfect place for food trucks when they clear the parking lot! It was very crowded but that didn’t affect wait times! We got our food and drink very promptly. I’m not a beer person, so it was nice to see that as a brewery they had a few options. The pizza was also good and everything was reasonably priced for being in the city!
What a great brewery with great beer. I particularly love their Trickery and Foolery special releases. Truly world class. The staff are also great people. I highly recommend supporting breweries like this with your business.
Hardy wood is a great place with a wonderful selection of craft beers. They have a diverse set of different seating areas including wonderful fire pits. Picnic tables. Fresh delicious pizza. Lots of events. This place is high Recommend.
Good beer and a fantastic beer garden. If I could split this review, I would give their atmosphere 5 stars and the beer and food would get a 3.5.
The beer is good, but not remarkable. And it’s more expensive than other breweries in town. 7+ dollars for a 12oz pour? And at the source? No shipping costs. What’s driving these prices? That’s a bit too dear for me. Give me a pint please. And bring the cost down a bit. This ain’t Nashville, Atlanta or LA.
And much of their beer is only available in cans. I would expect to be able to get most all of their beers on draft at their brewery.
Regarding the food:
We ordered two pizzas. The pizzas tasted good. But they were baby pizzas. They are listed on the menu as 10”, but looked more like 8” pizzas. I’ll bring a ruler next time. Very thin crust. $15 for what is essentially a personal pizza. This seems a little high for what you get. There were four of us and we were all still hungry after eating the two baby pizzas.
Their biggest strength is their beer garden. It’s pretty amazing. Lots of space and live music on some evenings. I wish I could bring my own beer and food to this space.
I will probably go back, just for the atmosphere outside, but it’s not going to be my go-to brewery.
If you don’t mind paying higher than average prices for your food and beer, then this place will be perfect for you. But for me, there are so many other great breweries in Richmond (with larger and cheaper pours) it will not be a problem for me to relegate this one to the bottom of my list of favorites.
Great atmosphere and service. We went on a Friday night. Played board games while listening to a live band. It's a popular spot for a good reason. We took a pizza to go, and it was good too.
Awesome beers and pizza to match. If you like your pizza crust to have a nice crips to it when you take a bite. . . This is your spot. No soggy dough here. I am lovin' the seasonal series they have. Maw Maw's Mean Peach Cobbler in spring, followed by Bubby' Blackberry Cobbler, then you hit Pappy's Pumpkin Pie in the early fall, and finish it up with Gingerbread Stout for the holidays.
Lovely spot for hanging out with friends. Everything to drink is made in house, including the cider which I loved. Haven't tried the pizza but it looked great. Will definitely visit again--staff were knowledgeable and super kind, the music was just the cherry on top!
Didn’t have the drink I was looking for in draft. But really good ambiance. Plenty of nice people. Family friendly. Kid friendly.
Love their mullet beer & pizza! Come on a Tuesday night for trivia!
Love their tropication beer and is a nice place to visit with much space and frequent live music. Sadly their pizza cook undercooks pizza as mine was way undercooked in the middle (dough was wet and floppy) so had to use a fork to eat it as slice would simply droop down whenever I tried to pick it up. Flavor was good but if that is a focal point of menu should be better

Solid brewery. The beer doesn’t quite match some of its regional competition (Triple Crossing, Final Gravity, Väsen, The Veil) but it’s enjoyable nonetheless. The space itself is very nice with a great patio and indoor section with all types of seating. Good amount of parking in front and street parking as well. Staff is quick to provide a drink and the bathrooms are clean.
What a nice area! Quite warm when sitting outside, and shaded spots get taken very fast, so you'll have to drink your beer quickly before it gets warm. Good beers, but you'll definitely be mostly coming here for the atmosphere
First time there and we came for the music, which was good. Had a pizza ($23), nothing notably better than any other roasted onion and mushroom that I've had for about 60% of the price. Ordered a cirrus vodka cocktail which ended costing $16 bucks ( ouch). Next time we'll go for the band, eat before we get there and drink water!
So good! Great atmosphere! Yummy brews!
The walmart of Richmond beer. Might have been good 5 years ago but no longer the case.
