We ate here tonight after reading a four month old thread on Reddit about best Mexican in RVA. La Dona was mentioned by most people on the thread. So I thought, yes, I want to try this. I'm not an expert on Mexican food, but I eat a fair amount of the typical stuff you can always get. But I am a very good cook, and I know very good cooking, and this is it. This family cares very much about what they are serving. Every ingredient and preparation was fresh and bright tasting. Every spice was balanced beautifully in the dishes. The steak was tender and perfectly cooked and served with wonderful, fresh roasted vegetables. My elotitos were yummy! And the coffee is special. Our server, a family member, was friendly, and kind, and helpful, and moving fast and working hard. He did a great job and was half the reason we'd go back. Cozy and colorful decor, a nice restroom. I will be here a lot. I've had a lot of mediocre food here in RVA and this is one of the three best experiences I've had here In six years. A wonderful meal. Please try this place!

I went to La Dona Cocina Mexicana today with my sister. One of the best meals I've had! We had one if the corn appetizers, diablo guacamole (it had us sweatin'), enchiladas, quesedilla fritas, fried plantains, and Tres Leche cake. The restaurant is so cute, clean, the staff was nice, and absolutely delicious!!

The Guacamole Diablo is the best guacamole I have had at any restaurant. The atmosphere and decor is very welcoming and the staff is very friendly. Definitely recommend.

Wow! When you first open the door, you can tell you're in for an amazing experience; not just food - experience. To say the decor is beautiful artwork is an understatement. It's all gorgeous! The host and server, Daniel, is a gem and is happy to talk about the origin of their menu and what makes them different. Surprise, it's everything. His mom is the amazing chef. The attention to detail in every presentation, the unique menu, the presence of every distinct flavor, it's truly a gem I hope RVA will support. A+ and can't wait to try everything on the menu.

What a discovery! We just found our favorite Mexican restaurant. Food is authentic, fresh, and so delicious. Service was impeccable. Cute decor. Our favorite food was the tamales. The Tres Leche dessert was superb. Planning our return trip already.

Excellent experience with very fresh, delicious traditional fare and friendly staff. The street corn, tamales, and tacos were all amazing and we bought extra tortillas for home as well.

Fabulous!! It is a blessing to have an authentic Mexican meal with hand made dishes including fresh ingredients. Truly a breath of fresh air. We were incredibly lucky to have the owner as our server. The menu explanations made it easy to select a dish. However, we look forward to returning to try more dishes. You start with the Guacamole. Well done. Good luck!

This place is new, and still having a few minor glitches. That having been said, the food was very good, and clearly homemade. Service was very friendly and knowledgeable. As soon as they get their ABC license, I'll definitely be back.
