Lamplighter Coffee Roasters in downtown Richmond has such a great vibe — a bustling coffee shop with a cozy, lively feel that makes it especially nice on a rainy day. The atmosphere is exactly what you’d expect from a classic, local coffee spot.
I tried the Brown Sugar Cardamom Latte since it was highly recommended, but honestly, it tasted more like a regular latte without the unique flavors I was hoping for. Still, the overall experience made up for it — friendly energy, good coffee shop hustle, and a welcoming place to relax or work for a bit. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in downtown Richmond and looking for that authentic coffeehouse experience.

Long wait and a small waiting area. Good coffee and breakfast burrito tho

I came to this place to do some work while in Richmond for the day. There was no wifi (it’s there, but when you sign in it doesn’t work) and minimal lunch options.

A must visit every time I’m in Richmond.
Excellent coffee, great service. Sometimes the bakery and bagels are a little inconsistent but nothing worth knocking down a star for.

The coffee is so delicious. You can tell they care about brewing the coffee just as much as they do crafting the drinks.

The people were really nice. The coffee was really bad. The shop seemed to be going for a seattle grunge feel, but mostly it just seemed dirty and messy.

Super chill place that served a great cup of coffee and food. We had bagels with cream cheese, and chai muffins. Friendly service and eclectic atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Absolutely incredible coffee that is brewed by knowledgeable baristas. The food is all incredible as well. My only sadness is that I can’t buy the big bags of single origin whole bean- only the House blend. My dog, Dickie, *loves* the dog treats provided.

I purchased a vanilla latte. It was good; no complaints. Staff is nice. Cool vibe. I'm giving four stars due to the lack of variety in flavor syrups (I think they have four options) and for cow's milk only having whole milk option. No low-fat or 2%. They do have almond and oat milk, though. Nice place, just small selection.

Love this coffee shop. Excellent service, drinks are made consistently with high quality. I love when coffee shops offer a smaller size than 16oz for an iced latte (specific, I know) and they offer a 12oz iced latte here! I've tried the summer sage, lavender, and vanilla. I think the vanilla latte is my favorite right now. I like the outdoor seating options, too. Feels very cozy inside and out. There can sometimes be a wait when it's busy, but that's to be expected anywhere that has great coffee.

Their breakfast food ! Is amazing !!! The only downside is the small space ( normal in rva) coffee and food is delicious !

Oh please bring back the French toast
The service is really good. I bought a bag of beans (the tall bike blend). I was debating between that blend or the Colombian blend and the barista offered me two free samples to taste and help me decide! That was great!

Lamplighter is my go-to whenever I’m in the mood for a great iced coffee. I’ve gotten their toasted coconut latte multiple times, and it never disappoints. Richmond doesn’t have a ton of standout options for iced coffee, but this one always hits the spot. If I have the choice, this is where I’m going.
The only reason I’m giving four stars instead of five is the ordering setup. Only one group can be inside at a time, so the line can get a little awkward, and the window tinting makes it hard to see if it’s your turn. Still worth it for the coffee.
