Was absolutely delicious! I was a little taken back by the exterior, not dirty just not what I expected. When I walked in it was quite and I was the only one in there. They had a good size menu with all types of dishes. I ordered pupusas and beef tacos. The beef in the tacos was marinated and was pretty much some of the best tasting beef I've ever tasted. The pupusas were equally as delicious.
Alas, I was a little let down. It was Saturday night and I had a jones for some good Salvadorian food. Someone recommended Mi Casita, so I was on my way. I ordered some standards: pupusas and tamal de elote. The pupusas were OK, but a far cry from those spectacular little pies I had had at places around DC. The tamal de elote, however, was heartbreaking. It had the taste and consistency of cornbread. I'm sure there are as many recipes for this as there are grandmothers in El Salvadore, but this was not the best. Still, I don't want to give the impression that the cuisine was bad. It was just ... sigh ... OK. I was a bit surprised that the place wasn't more alive on a Saturday night. The interior is divided into thirds. The left side has additional tables, which was closed off the night I went. The middle section was the main area of the restaurant, and the right side was evidently a bar and dance area. Several attractive women in just slightly too tight fitting dresses emerged from time to time, but little activity seemed to be going on. It was admittedly early (7-8PM), but I only saw two other groups of people come in while I was there. While I wouldn't strike this from my list, I would only be tempted to go back if I found myself in the area, which wouldn't happen too frequently.
