The food was great. Our table of 6 tried a variety of menu options. Inexpensive cocktails during happy hour. The waitstaff was fun and knowledgeable. We even ended up meeting the chef and chatting with him. SG is a down to earth, non stuffy restaurant. The only drawback is that parking is a bit of a hassle. Otherwise I recommend.
Food was outstanding, service was impeccable, and ambiance was just right. Highly recommend!
Every time we visit we have the best time and can't stop talking about how great the food is....every single thing! The shrimp and grits are always my go to and my husband loves the meatloaf. We also got the scallop appetizer and some cornbread to share and already want to add both to our normal order when we return. The staff is incredibly kind and knowledgeable and the space is always cozy and has that Richmond charm.
This was our first time at The Savory Grain, but it won't be the last. All three of us ordered a different entree, and each entree was delicious. The craft cocktail had something to appeal to every taste. And the wait staff is superb. Kudos to management for empowering the wait staff to address issues immediately. I had a problem with my first cocktail and right away our waitress comped the drink. Highly recommend The Savory Grain.
The food and drinks were delish but service was just ok. We got a bonus surprise when a jazz band showed up and starting playing. It was fun & lively. It's not really noisy b/c the music was awesome.
We've been here many times and the most recent was probably our least favorite. We still love this place and will for sure be back, this just wasn't our best visit. We went early (5ish) and maybe they just weren't ready for dinner service. Our pimento cheese was very cold and hard to spread.. They must have been out of the usual bread because it was served with bread that looked like cut up and toasted hot dog buns. It was impossible to spread the hard cheese on them. When we received our entrees, my macaroni and cheese was cold and yet my husband's mashed potatoes were so hot he couldn't eat them for a while. The steak and meatloaf were pretty good. The peanut butter pie was delicious and big enough for two to share. Next time I am eating just that! The server was great. The food was just a little less outstanding than you would expect when paying $100 for dinner for two.
Between the food and our waiter, we loved our reservation. Our waiter made our experience very top of the line. We had a brunch with Crab Bennys I was delicious.
I really enjoyed my time at this establishment. The servers are always so warm and welcoming. The chef really knows how to do up a good brunch! Some days there is live music and you really get a sense of an enriching dining experience.
Took a friend there for the first time. Were greeted warmly as soon as we entered the restaurant. Menu offered a great variety of options. Our food was delicious and the chef even passed by and said hello. Will be back again today with my spouse.
The Savory Grain is a charming, boutique-sized restaurant with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We went for brunch on the first Sunday of the year, and it was truly special. Live musicians filled the space with beautiful songs, making the experience feel even more memorable. The service was excellent--so attentive and kind to my family. Every dish we ordered was absolutely delicious, and the hibiscus mimosa was epic. Overall, a wonderful brunch experience that we can't wait to enjoy again.

A real gem! Great food, great people, great atmosphere. What more could you ask for? Just an overall terrific experience for our first visit. We will be back!
Had a great New Year's Day brunch experience. The staff were wonderful and the food was great. Would definitely go back!
We were sat immediately. The chairs were a bit rickety and had to change them around. Plus the table seemed off a bit. Reagan was our server and was full of life and was a pleasure to have her as a server. Food was quick and decent. Crab cakes seemed a bit dry, but everything else was really good.
Hidden gem. We had a party of 7 and everyone loved their food. Service was great and the beer was really good too!
Lizzy was MAGNIFICENT! I brought my sister and her husband for a first time visit, and while everything was fresh, and unique...which is why I love The Savory Grain! Only downfalls were 1) bacon wrapped jalapenos had very undercooked bacon 2) Cornbread was much heavier and not as good as previous visits. 3) My scallops were cold, and while Lizzy offered to take them back, I d id not want them to get rubbery and I went ahead and ate them anyway! Not as good as I am sure they should have been, but I was starving! Oh-they were out of broccolini-another fave of mine. :( Restaurant was festive and everyone kind as ever! STAND OUT FOR ME: SHE CRAB SOUP!! Thank you!
