The restaurant itself was very good, the food was good and the service was really impeccable! Our problem was we came there for brunch to catch up with some friends that we hadn't seen in a while! The restaurant itself is rather small, they had a keyboard player and a saxophonist that were playing so loud there was no part of the restaurant she could go to to get a little bit of a break! I would not go back if there is live music that is playing that loud again

The only front of house staff member was great and she was trying and doing her best. The food however - it was my birthday and this place was highly recommended- I was excited to start my “Richmond Day” here. I have celiac disease and ordered a meal that was listed as gluten free, not even GF optional. Waitress confirmed and checked with kitchen. I got BADLY glutenated. I spent the next hour at the museum we went to next in the bathroom in extreme pain and misery. (This was the first and only food I had consumed all day so it definitely was the culprit.) The other dishes my family ordered were wrong or overcooked and unpalatable. We left basically not eating lunch. We were also there for nearly 2 hours!!!! There were 4 other tables. That was crazy slow for such terrible food. Needless to say as soon as I was stable we had to return home (90 mins away) and my birthday celebrations were ruined.

Made reservations a few days before valentines. On the night of valentines i get there and they were charging $125 per person never inform me on the day I made the reservation and it was 4 of us. Ask to speak with manager and never saw him. That's why I give them 1 🌟
We made a Valentine’s Day reservation weeks in advance, but when we arrived, we were told they were only offering a $125 per person prefixed menu that wasn’t listed online or mentioned when we booked.
That lack of communication was frustrating, especially on such a busy holiday. We left without dining. Very disappointing.
Excellent service and the huevos rancheros were absolutely delicious!😋 The live jazz music was a nice addition for Sunday brunch.

The food was great. Our table of 6 tried a variety of menu options. Inexpensive cocktails during happy hour. The waitstaff was fun and knowledgeable. We even ended up meeting the chef and chatting with him. SG is a down to earth, non stuffy restaurant. The only drawback is that parking is a bit of a hassle. Otherwise I recommend.
It’s 9:30 was told kitchen is closed, online says open until 11

Every time we visit we have the best time and can't stop talking about how great the food is....every single thing! The shrimp and grits are always my go to and my husband loves the meatloaf. We also got the scallop appetizer and some cornbread to share and already want to add both to our normal order when we return. The staff is incredibly kind and knowledgeable and the space is always cozy and has that Richmond charm.
This was our first time at The Savory Grain, but it won't be the last. All three of us ordered a different entree, and each entree was delicious. The craft cocktail had something to appeal to every taste. And the wait staff is superb. Kudos to management for empowering the wait staff to address issues immediately. I had a problem with my first cocktail and right away our waitress comped the drink. Highly recommend The Savory Grain.
The food and drinks were delish but service was just ok. We got a bonus surprise when a jazz band showed up and starting playing. It was fun & lively. It's not really noisy b/c the music was awesome.
We've been here many times and the most recent was probably our least favorite. We still love this place and will for sure be back, this just wasn't our best visit. We went early (5ish) and maybe they just weren't ready for dinner service. Our pimento cheese was very cold and hard to spread.. They must have been out of the usual bread because it was served with bread that looked like cut up and toasted hot dog buns. It was impossible to spread the hard cheese on them. When we received our entrees, my macaroni and cheese was cold and yet my husband's mashed potatoes were so hot he couldn't eat them for a while. The steak and meatloaf were pretty good. The peanut butter pie was delicious and big enough for two to share. Next time I am eating just that! The server was great. The food was just a little less outstanding than you would expect when paying $100 for dinner for two.
Between the food and our waiter, we loved our reservation. Our waiter made our experience very top of the line. We had a brunch with Crab Bennys I was delicious.
