About Maman joon

Maman Joon is a small Persian restaurant in Vienna that offers an authentic experience. The food is incredibly authentic and brings back memories of Iran. Guests are welcomed with kind, generous hospitality and can even bring pets; the staff do not mind. The menu includes classic Persian dishes and surprising milkshakes. A typical lunch starts with hummus and pita, followed by combo #1, which contains a chicken kabob and a ground beef kabob with a salad or rice. Both kabobs are juicy and flavorful, and the chicken is the favorite. Milkshake lovers can choose the snickers flavor, which contains bits of candy bar. The space is clean, organized, and decorated with colorful wall art. Service is friendly and welcoming, and the lot is right out front.

Other customers praise the hummus, falafel, and kubideh chicken combo plate. The hummus is lighter, milder, and fresh with sumac for extra punch. The kubideh and chicken meats are tender and cooked just right, with subtle seasoning and a spot‑on texture. The basmati rice is fluffy, buttery, not greasy, and the side salad is crisp. The overall meal feels clean, light, and like healthy home cooking rather than heavy takeout. Prices are fair; two people can enjoy a meal for about $40. The owner goes above and beyond, explaining food choices, offering samples, and giving free items to create a traditional experience. Maman Joon is a true gem and highly recommended for relaxed Persian lunch in Vienna.
