Buffett style- food is very good- great views of wolf trap-good service
The buffets (there was a dessert one and a regular food one with salads, mains, and sides) offered a good assortment of options. The flavors of most of the offerings were good (some of the proteins were a little dry, but it is a buffet staying warm on hot plates… so). The waitstaff was great and very helpful and friendly. Ovations Restaurant, operated by The Fermented Pig, offers a National Park and performance venue dining experience. The buffet-style menu features a mix of hits and misses, with the fried chicken, fried fish, potato salad, and coleslaw receiving praise, while the pulled pork and bratwurst were a bit dry. The facility's beautiful setting overlooking the Wolf Trap meadow and the excellent service from staff like Claire contribute to a positive overall experience. Recently, the restaurant closed after the owner/chef's departure, but a pop-up now offers great protein boxes and other items, with the option to order canned cocktails, beer, and wine. Food can be picked up at a serving window, allowing guests to sit under the same Ovations roof with a lovely view of the meadows. The only dining option remains the buffet, which includes traditional picnic treats such as potato salad, Cole slaw, fried chicken, barbeque, fish, chicken choices, and plenty of vegetables, along with delicious desserts. While the buffet offers standard barbecue fare, the pulled pork was enjoyed, though the brisket was a bit dry. The food tends to be lukewarm, which helps prevent dryness, but may not be ideal for all. The price remains high at $42 per person, excluding beverages, which might deter some, especially families with children. Vegetarian options are limited, and parking can be challenging. The ambiance and convenience, especially for those attending a concert at the Filene Center, make Ovations Restaurant a good choice for a pre-show meal or a special occasion. The staff, mostly young college students, provide prompt service, and the electronic check-in process is quick. Overall, it offers an enjoyable experience, though not a destination for frequent dining.
