Headed from Raleigh back to Tennessee and decided to take the scenic route. We’re so glad we did.

We always keep an eye out for roadside BBQ when we’re traveling through the South, and this place did not disappoint. Forget fast food—if you want barbecue that’s tender, flavorful, and melts in your mouth, make the stop.

The owners came out and chatted with us, and you can tell it’s a family-run place that takes pride in what they do....
The restaurant is spotless and the food is OK, but I have to say it’s overpriced. It definitely isn't a $10-$20 per person place; expect to spend $20-$30 just to barely get full. The prices are even higher than big-city BBQ spots. Paying over $16 for a half-pound of pulled pork with no bread or sides is just unjustifiable
If you're passing through Wytheville, do yourself a favor and stop by High Plains BBQ. The Mudd Bowl is absolutely the bomb, packed with flavor and guaranteed to leave you happy and full.
The food alone is worth the trip, but what really makes this place special is the people. The crew is friendly, fun, and provides outstanding service. It was a true pleasure meeting everyone there.
And as a bonus, don't leave without trying the Jacked Up Tennessee...
