My recent visit to Hen of the Wood in Burlington was truly exceptional, easily one of the best dining experiences I've had. From the moment I stepped in, the atmosphere felt both cozy and classy, striking the perfect balance. We were lucky enough to secure seats at the kitchen bar, and watching the culinary team in action was mesmerizing – it was fascinating to see the precision and passion behind each dish. The bartenders crafted wonderful cocktails too, making the wait for our table (though we had a reservation, which I highly recommend!) a delightful start.
The food itself was simply fantastic. Their commitment to farm-to-table is evident, with the menu changing daily to feature the freshest ingredients, all cooked to absolute perfection. The Parker House Rolls, as many rave, are indeed legendary and worth the visit alone. My dish, a beautifully prepared hanger steak, was incredibly tender and juicy. While it's on the pricier side, every bite justified the cost; the quality and attention to detail shone through. The service was impeccable and attentive, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable evening. Hen of the Wood is an absolute must-visit when in Burlington!
Absolutely fantastic in every way , I recommend it!
Cheffe Ramsey got nothing on these fine people…
One of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. Could easily hold its own in a major metro area but so nice that it’s not in one. Might go to the second location tomorrow.
Excellent menu and service. The food and drinks were amazing.
Phenomenal.
Best restaurant in the NE.

The atmosphere, the service and the food were awesome. I like the fact that you can see the chefs cook your food while being at your table. I ordered the bread rolls as an appetizer and the hanger steak with crispy kale for my main. The bread was crispy outside and soft inside with a little honey butter. The steak was well seasoned and the kale was spectacular. The only bad thing I have to say is that the steak was a bit cold. I highly recommend and I hope I get the chance to go back and try the duck and another appetizer.

Outstanding food and service in a warm and cozy atmosphere. Amazing cocktails too.
It was our anniversary and they offered us a few bubbles to start our meal.
Our waiter was very friendly and made great recommendations; cabbage Cesar-style, pressed braised pork with grainy mustard and home made focaccia, crudo, pasta dish. Everything was delicious.

We stayed in Burlington VT on our road trip specifically so we could try Hen of the Wood. So happy that we did! From atmosphere to service to the food it was all top notch.
We sat at the bar for drinks and dinner which is fun - lots of action to observe. Jo’s swordfish was to die for - it was seared to perfection with crunchy exterior and moist interior. I had steak (after having lots of seafood on the coasts of Connecticut and Maine). The steak was delicious but even better was the smoked sweet potato purée that accompanied it. We finished with a cheese plate. Every bite of every dish was savoured.
Service was attentive and professional. Ambience was warm and although it’s a big restaurant it felt cozy.
At the end of the night we asked our server for recommendations for the next night. We went with the first on her list and were thrilled. Wrote a review for that, too.
Sorry, the pictures don’t do the meal justice.

Many years ago I lived in Burlington for work for 1 summer and the couple times I ate here were so memorable we essentially planned our VT trip this year around eating here again. Our server Gibelle was incredible. Very welcoming and genuine. The food as always was such perfect and interesting flavor pairings. This place deeply cares about everything their customers are experiencing you cannot leave without feeling inspired and satisfied.
