We loved this place and stopped here multiple times for breakfast while on vacation. It has good food, coffee, a cute outdoor patio, and super friendly staff.

The food is always delicious, the vibe is awesome, I always leave feeling better than when I arrived - and whoever is in charge of the playlist should get a raise!

JJ Hapgoods is the heart and soul of Peru, VT. The food is amazing, the staff and owners are even better and the general store has little special gifts. We often stop in for coffee in the morning and back for dinner and cocktails. Their homemade pizza is to die for, with fun names and fantastic ingredient pairings. We love the Johnny B. Good, Loving Cup and King Louie. Also, their espresso martini is the best in Vermont.

Can’t say enough great things about this place. Wonderful place to hang out, eat, shop, or have a beverage.
The people are lovely!!

Wow. $50 (2 breakfasts plus tip). One star for the fresh squeezed OJ, and no stars for the food. I specifically asked for bacon that was not well cooked - it was burnt and unchewable. My scrambled eggs were a dry brick and they draped cheese on top which I did not ask for and was not even melted. My coffee was undrinkable due to a extremely burnt aftertaste. My friend ordered over easy eggs and they came well done. We were very specific, and zero attention was paid. Very disappointed.

Good sandwiches! The fried chicken was so moist. I really wanted to try their waffles, but the photos of the menu online are outdated and we had no idea we had to make it before 11:30am to have them (they don’t do chicken and waffles anymore). I wish they updated their info more. In the meantime, here are pics of the menu as of today

Fried chicken sandwich was awesome.
Beer pricing is majorly wonky, though.
Modelo priced at $11, same as top shelf Vermont beers.

All for a fancy beer list, but have some more desirable Lagers and Pilsners to pair with Heady Topper, or have a $6 Modelo which would also be cool :)

As a local, I tried really hard to like this place. 2 recent experiences have driven me to write this review. The first was charging a cover during the Peru Fair. The Peru Fair is a lovely event, which you already have to pay to get into. There are lots of music and activities during the fair that are free, so I'm not sure why this place feels the need to be exclusive and exploitive. The second experience was when I stopped in for lunch with a colleague. I ordered the chicken sandwich. I thought it was overpriced but fine, I'm willing to pay for a good piece of chicken, also knowing that I'm supporting local. The food took a while to arrive, and I was disappointed when it was the thinnest, greasiest piece of chicken ever. Again, I really wanted to like this place but I give up. Just another tourist trap that also exploits locals. Also, you never know when they are open and their online presence is abysmal.

Disappointed.

As our family was traveling to the Northeast, we thought it would be neat to stop by and visit a small town that made a cameo in a movie that both my wife and I watched growing up. Upon arriving we just made it before they closed the kitchen after lunch, which seemed to bother the employee at the counter, found a few simple items to order to not be a burden, since we were hungry from driving 6 hours, and this was our lunch stop planned on our trip. The food arrived after a longer wait than we had expected for 3 sandwiches. The flavors were unique and tasty for my wife and me, our kids not so much.

While we were sitting waiting, we watched group of 7 people come in, and be turned away because they were not serving food, missed opportunity in my opinion.

Before we left we inquired if they had anything that noted it was used in the movie Baby Boom. The employee we inquired with was very dismissive, said nothing was filmed at the store, and seemed put off that we even asked. That is what really took us by surprise and disappointed us the most.

We had intentionally added this stop, which was slightly out of our way along our travels, to see what was something we thought would be a cool experience to see and share with our kids. It was a huge dud.

Incredible Dinner! We finally went back for dinner with the new owners (very appreciative that they are open in Stick Season!) and WOW! As another reviewer said, absolutely the best roasted chicken anywhere, ever. Staff was excellent and my wife's Spaghetti Squash was also amazing as were our appetizers... but the chicken is simply special. So happy to have another local option and especially with the quality of what we've had both previously with the unmatched breakfast sandwiches, at lunch, and last night for dinner. Thank you, thank you!

The food was great but the lead up to our meal wasn't. Called at 445pm to ask whether my wife and I could just come in or needed to make a reservation. Host said it was best to make a resrvation so we made one for 530pm.
We entered and no greeting, I had to mention we had a reservation. Looking around we were the only customers there.
The older blondish male waiter asked where we'd like to sit I mentioned corner and point to a 4-seater. He takes us to a 2-seater, surrounded by empty 4-seater and 6-seater tables. If all the food we ordered arrived at the same time we definitely would've needed a 4-seater table to accomodate all our food.
My wife paid the blond older waiter from earlier and was looking around the store when an older pregnant lady asked whether we paid, naybe owner? Need better communication with staff or be more observant, afterall, we were the only 2 customers
They have good food covered but place definitely needs help in listening, hospitality and coordinating.
On a side note Chris, a newer waiter, was very personable, attentive and accommodating to our requests and helped clear dishes more frequently because the table was so small. Besides the food, Chris and his great service helped us enjoy our dining experience more..... hope he gets the 20% tip.

We've been going to the Peru Fair for years, one of our favorite parts of the Fair is hanging on the green by Hapgood's with the kids and enjoying a beer. Apparently the store changed hands since last year and now there's a $5 cover to sit on the lawn AND beers (12 ounce pours) are $12. Give me a break. You pay $17 for a beer at a concert, at the very least it's a 24 ounce tall boy.

I'm all for someone making a reasonable profit on their investment, this was exploitative. Peru Fair is a special experience, most of all for the fact that it's accessible and affordable.
