The White Cottage Snack Bar

I’m writing this review because I saw a very negative review and I want to say that person has to be an absolute nut. The place is fantastic. The staff warm and friendly the food magnificent I’m sad they close in October. I wish they could stay open year-round. This is a 10 star eating establishment. And I’ve eaten all over the world.

Onion rings were great, I had a burger and I am sad to say it wasn't that great. It was dry and I asked for med rare and there was not even a hint of pink.
I will go back and try something else.

The food and service was legit bad. When we walked in and started to order, the girl at the window couldn’t have cared less that we were there (mind you we’re here during peak color change, Woodstock is booming with people, and this restaurant is empty). We ordered a hotdog with bacon, a grilled cheese with bacon, clam chowder, and fried clam strips. Somehow that order cost $60. The hotdog met expectations while they somehow made a grilled cheese bland… pretty hard to mess that one up. I’ve had better clam chowder from Campbell’s so I do not recommend that item - bland, no taste, bay leaves were very large and left in the soup to eat. The fried clams were just bad and the tartar sauce was sweet - never had that before but it did cover up some of the bad taste from the clams.

The outside seating was pretty amazing given that this is a roadside snack bar. Indoor seating was comfortable as s well, clean restrooms, fast friendly service, well prepared food. We were a bit early for lunch but by the time we finished the place was bustling. Easy parking.

A great place to have some ice cream. They serve Gifford's ice cream which is premium creamy goodness. I didn't try the regular food, but there were a lot of people eating, so it must have been good. It's next to a river and has plenty of outdoor and indoor dining.

Weather permitting, I recommend sitting on the sliding table out back! Great selection of flavors and reasonably priced.

I have been stopping here on my way to my family in NY, ever since I was a little kid. So many great memories, playing in the river. Food is amazing and staff is always very friendly!

Don’t come here for these food choices:
- Cheeseburger
- Fish ‘n Chips
- Clam Chowder
- Garden salad

All of the above were the worst we’ve ever tried. What a let down. Folks must be desperate to keep coming back here.

Staff: I guess the cash register lady was having a bad day when we went because when we got to the window and said: hello how are you doing today? We got absolutely no response paired with a blank stare. She didn’t say anything until I asked a question about the menu. ?

Atmosphere: inside - ?, outside- ? ? it was awesome to have the kiddos playing in the river having a blast.

So, come for the river for play time and nothing else.

Twice I’ve come here both times middle of fries were not cooked and I don’t know what the chicken tenders are but it doesn’t look like chicken inside of them…

The girl at the order window had zero personality. Food was cold, would have been better if it was hot. We were looking forward to going but don't think we will be rushing back any time soon. We've had way better seafood elsewhere.

Bummed out…. Almost $26 for the whole belly clam platter and I only got six clams and like 15 french fries. I’m aware of the price of clams, they are not cheap, but dang only six clams? (Visited first week of Aug. 2024). In past the portions seemed much bigger (just sayin).
