Unlike other rural restaurants, Callen’s isn’t as good as it was during the pandemic. Service is still friendly, when they finally decide to acknowledge you. Staff seem very absorbed with each other. Family business I guess? Pulled pork was decent but the coleslaw was legit rotten. Should have been thrown out days prior. Maybe it was an off day.
A local recommended Callens. We stopped in for lunch and had a burgers and soup. The portions were large and smelled wonderful. Overall the food was average, the burgers fell a part. Our waitress didn't really check on us until we were done, a refills check would've been nice. Prices were a tad high, being the only place to eat near the ferry. I wouldn't recommend Callen's to anyone - you have more choices 10 minutes away.
Had 9 meals between two people over two days and every single one was amazing. One of the best places I've eaten, overall. Breakfast skillet, wagyu burger, spicy chicken sandwich, Ceasars salad, hummus and bread, steak, fish and chips, mmmmmmmmm. I wouldn't be able to drive past this place without stopping.
