Never stayed at the Tyee hotel but I’ve had lunch at the Tyee Restaurant a few times and always felt like I had a good home cooked kind of meal at a very reasonable price. The dining room atmosphere has a strong mid-twentieth century diner vibe.
Location is fine in an out of the tourist traffic way. No Puget Sound or Cascade mountain views that Whidbey is famous for but you can always do take-out and have a picnic at Camp Casey Lighthouse park.

Booked a last minute room and drove from Southern California to care for a family member. We stayed 4 days at the Tyee. My overall review has some highs and a few lows. Upon arrival, checkin was quick and the bartender who helped us was extremely polite. We stayed in room 6. The room was clean and gave a cabin vibe. The bed was extremely comfortable. Beds are probably as old as the motel itself. Creeky and loud. My husband slept well so that's a plus. Dog friendly and really affordable. Walking distance of a lot of stuff
