It was a pleasure to meet the owner Hampton and the best bar tender in the area Ms. Cat. The food was delicious. Do yourself a favor...get the greens and the gator Bloody Mary. Enjoy 😉

Not going to lie, the food was great, staff super nice. Only complaint is the 20% service feed that was added to the bill. Won't be going again. I chose what the tip should be.

Went there to support my friends band that was playing there. I ordered a Jamison Manhattan. It was one of the skimpiest pours I've seen but that wasn't an issue. When I asked the price $28!!! That's twice the price of the Space Needle let alone a Des Moines dive bar.
Edit: Heard from one of the band members that the insane prices had been adjusted. I made a return visit and the prices were reasonable, the atmosphere was quaint and comfortable and the music was great. I plan to return.

Love this place every time we can get in there. I loved their bread pudding so it’s kinda of a bummer when it’s not available. My favorite is their shrimp Po boy but honestly all their food is great. Their kickers and hush puppies! Best appetizers ever!

Amazing Experience with Great Food, Service, and Live Music!
We had an incredible time at Creole Soul! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious—each dish was full of flavor.
One of the highlights was the live music, which created a wonderful atmosphere. We only wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy more of it!
Overall, everything was top-notch, and we can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend this spot!

Holy over priced food truck. 9 shrimp and some waffle fries should not cost 27 dollars. The food was fine. I don't think there's anything else I can say except I do not recommend it and won't be back.

Kinda disappointing to order shrip etouffe. Paid an arm and a leg for it including a great tip for the waiter. The owner came out and stated they don't have forks. I was planning to eat this by the beach.
Upon opening the container, I came across a very sad state of filet and what looks like small pieces of seafood.
I think he gave me scraps from the bottom of the pot as there were no signs of shrimp.
It has an overwhelming taste of brown butter and spices.
I was just expecting better. It's too expensive and taste is very subpar.

Ate at the food truck, with tax about $27 for the tiniest bowl of gumbo with just a bit of rice. The gumbo was fine but I’ve definitely had much better as the chicken was overdone. It was very disappointing to spend almost $30 for lunch and still be hungry.

Ordered the swap platter and wife ordered the seafood basket. Both had shrimp smelling like feet/ammonia witch google says it's spoiled. Stopping eating once I realized it didn't smell right anyways just had to Google it. Catfish and alligators were good some pieces had a little too much salt. The collard greens were good. Can't say much about the oyster not a big fan of them to begin with.
Kid-friendliness: It's not just a restaurant. It's actually a bar so no one under 21 is allowed. Did not know that until we got there. But it does say it on the actual website

First time dining at Creole Soul. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Spoke with the owner/chef Hampton Isom. Very pleasant gentleman.
I enjoyed the catfish with red beans and rice, jalapeño hush puppies and my Glenlivet 12.
Everything was fresh, tasty and overall excellent.

Ordered take out for myself and a group of coworkers. First off, place is extremely over priced. Second off, after placing the order and waiting 40 minutes to receive it, we were given the entirely wrong order. Ordered 3 gumbos and only received one. Gumbo looked more like watery soup, no real substance or depth to it. Was given 2 catfish and shrimp meals although we didn't order this. Catfish was bad, very salty. The shrimp wasn't that much better and the fries were cold and soggy. Lastly one of us wanted to try the alligator. After trying it, it went straight into the trash. Was not edible at all. When we tried using the phone number given to notify them of the incorrect order, the phone number was not in service.
Do not go here unless you really wanna overpay for some bad food!

Came for the gumbo, left with a full heart and a full tummy. If you want a true taste of the south, with hospitality to match, don’t sleep on this tasty spot.
