“We had low expectations because of some of these reviews - but all those people must have come here at the wrong time because we showed up at 3:00AM and the food was excellent. Great portion size, fresh vegetables, awesome hummus. My husband didn’t get what he ordered (a beef and lamb gyro) and got a lamb, rice, hummus pita plate instead but it was still really good. The curveball here is that we were stone cold sober.”

“I first heard about Kanishka's Des Moines location through a friend who saw somebody raving about it in a Seattle foodies group here on FB. My friend and I went to check it out and, well, it's my new favorite restaurant. I've been here 3 times and Door Dashed it once in the past month. The food every time has been absolutely fantastic, and the portion size are quite generous. The appetizers are almost entree-sized; the first time I went there with a friend, we filled up on appetizers and had to get our entrees to go. Dish recommendations: Chicken 65 and Fish Pakoras for appetizers; Mixed Grill, Lamb Vindaloo, and Paneer Korma entrees. Also, listen to your host as it seems like they're always trying out new dishes that haven't made it onto the menu yet.”

“This place is a treat that everyone is pleased to visit in my family. The drinks are made fresh and come with just the right amount of ice. Every item is delicious and the picture menu is helpful for ordering. I recommend stopping by here before running errands, or before/during a road trip”

“We hadn't eaten at this restaurant in five years because of, well let's just say it wasn't very good. THIS time we had a gift certificate for our long time wedding anniversary to eat at the Anthony's HomePort in Des Moines. The food was EXCELLENT!!! We had clam chowder, steak, scallops, and rhubarb slump. We will be eating there many times in the future. Thank you so much!”

“We did take-out because of this heatwave that just hit last week. Good thing because there wasn’t any AC in there. Their online ordering was a bit jenky. There were things on the regular menu that weren’t in it. Turns out they have a rotating menu of seasonal offerings, which is a bonus good thing in my mind. There was jambalaya (which would’ve been heavenly, if I had gotten it—it was missing from the order when I finally got home), but no potato soup or bread pudding that night.
Even though the atmosphere felt like it was 80% humidity on top of the 88° heat, the vibe in there was so chill, I stopped for a drink. I knew my catfish was getting soggier by the second, but I was investigating. The owner was in tonight and did the cooking himself. What a character! Seriously funny guy. Sharp, but busy with trying to sweet talk his joint into a couple of new bartenders—good help is hard to find these and harder to keep. But another local wandered in and sat down at the bar with a few other younger ones outside in the shed out front. It would’ve been my kind of place if it hadn’t been that hot that afternoon.
For all the disbelievers out there, “spicy” does not need to hurt. There’s probably plenty of Tabasco or Crystal around for folks who like to punish themselves on a hot afternoon. But the food didn’t need it. It was really flavorful—I could taste the garlic, sweet paprika, black and cayenne peppers and a dash of cumin in the cornmeal flour of the jalapeño hushpuppies. My husband ripped through the chicken and shrimp gumbo, which he gave me a taste of—and there was real sassafras filé in that. Truly the real deal like I had when I lived in Louisiana.
Couple of things that would’ve made things nicer—other than getting chicken and andouille jambalaya—the online ordering needs a place for SAUCES with the frieds—I was disappointed when I couldn’t see if they had genuine creole cocktail sauce. But there’s no way to add it to the order. No place to add a comment or anything. The owner asked me if I saw the 20% off coupon on the site (NOPE). Like I said, jenky. (Yes I shoulda asked for the sauce when I was there, but it was 85° inside and I just had Elijah Craig—not 2 things I associate with thinking clearly.) The phone interface could’ve been much friendlier here in Seattle techland, but it wasn’t.
But hey, it’s 3 blocks from my house. I’m sure I’ll get another shot at it—and the jambalaya—soon enough. I saw beignets and bottomless Prosecco mimosas on the Sunday brunch menu. And if the bread puddin’ has a good bourbon sauce, I may have finally found my new spot since Burk’s left Ballard.”

“First time in for food last night. The young lady at the counter was so friendly and chatty. The food came out quick and hot. When I got home it was still so hot I couldn't eat it (good thing I hate cold chicken). The sweet & sour chicken was the best along with the gyoza. I would highly recommend the food here. Thank you for the awesome service and the good food!!!”

“Cute little place! They have a good variety of treats. We had the mango smoothie, lots of goodies in it! A piece of cake from the cooler near the door, it was firm and moist, allot of whip cream. We also had the
Chicharrones they were tasty!
Service was quick and pleasant. Atmosphere was colorfully decorated but there was some construction plastic curtains hanging in the dining area. Otherwise, this place is a hidden gem in Des Moines, we'll go back again!”

“ZERO STARS! Overpriced, miss labeled, and falsely advertised! Bet you clearly states like coming knowledge for anybody that’s had a spring roll would know it should entail of the rice wrapper, lettuce, carrots, shrimp, noodles. Now take a look at that picture and tell me if you see any of the last two ingredients. Might as well call it a lettuce wrap because that’s all it was was just lettuce and carrots and a piece of shrimp buried in the middle of it all is aware of that. After calling and complaining the owner said that that’s how they are supposed to be made because they have people complaining that the noodle start to smell bad from keeping them overnight. That’s a whole separate issue don’t list an ingredient literally on your website it bad you that you are knowingly not going to include in the item because I would not have paid what I paid for a literally just all lettuce and carrots because you guys what a cheap out and put whole shrimp or noodles and your spring rolls. I have never ever been to any type of Asian establishment that would call this a spring roll with no type of protein to it whatsoever and the restaurant was less than fourth coming being helpful in making it correctly. Never ever coming back and making sure nobody I know ever wastes their money there!”

“We took advantage of Papa Murphy’s Tuesday pizza sale and were very pleased with our pizza. We also ordered a Club and a Chicken Caesar salad and they were both very good. The salads are large and we weren’t able to finish them so between the leftover pizza and the leftover salads we’ve got at least one more meal.”

“we could tell by the pictures of the pizza that this is the kind we like. There is something special about the cheese. Delicious, will be back. For the people that complain about it being soggy...its probably because you get door dash etc. and its cold. get it right out of the oven.”

“Went to pick up a friend and we were looking for a late night place to grab food. He noticed the 24 hour sign and so we made a U-turn and headed into the drive-thru. Drive-thru is a little slow. I commented to my friend, "this place has to be awesome for the wait to be this long..." and... it was awesome. ordered the carne asada burrito and my friend ordered the carnitas burrito and an asada taco. so, the wait in the drive-thru was WORTH it. really big portions. actually eating the other half of my burrito right now and it still tastes great even after having been sitting in my fridge overnight and then nuked in the microwave. definitely will be back. next time though, i think going inside will be the plan.”

“I had a great dinner at Wally's with family (including a tween, kindergartner, and toddler). After a week in WA, this was my last stop before the airport.
We ordered the clam chowder, mozzarella sticks, calamari fries, kids fried clams, and a combo platter. I really enjoyed every item, very fresh and tasty.
This was my first time here though my family has been here numerous times. The kids enjoyed the food and atmosphere a lot. Can't wait to come back on my next trip!”
