First time dining at Creole Soul. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Spoke with the owner/chef Hampton Isom. Very pleasant gentleman.
I enjoyed the catfish with red beans and rice, jalapeño hush puppies and my Glenlivet 12.
Everything was fresh, tasty and overall excellent.

We did take-out because of this heatwave that just hit last week. Good thing because there wasn’t any AC in there. Their online ordering was a bit jenky. There were things on the regular menu that weren’t in it. Turns out they have a rotating menu of seasonal offerings, which is a bonus good thing in my mind. There was jambalaya (which would’ve been heavenly, if I had gotten it—it was missing from the order when I finally got home), but no potato soup or bread pudding...

I work in Des Moines and found this local gem by accident. If you are in search of authenticity the food and atmosphere leave nothing to be desired! Even better are the lovely humans making it all happen. New patron for life!

Vegetarian options: Veggie Stew and Veggie succotash are amazing!!!
