Unfortunately, after my second visit to The Mansion, this restaurant is average at best.
We arrived at the restaurant desk a few minutes early and waited about 5 minutes to be greeted by restaurant staff.
This sitting I had the Bone in Rib Eye topped with chimichurri, served with a sweet potato mash and braised kale. My partner had the lamb with similar sides.
At the locations price point, I would expect a level of dining that offers incredible flavour in its servings, but the pan fried rib eye covered in oily chimichrri didn’t pack that much of a punch with regards to flavour. Sides are something I would expect to see at home, but not as accompaniments for a 55$ plate.
We also had the taco and crab cake appetizers which were well done.
Orcas Island is a favorite of ours. We visit at least once a year in February as a break from the winter weather at home. Most trips, we visit Rosario and the Mansion, because it is such a beautifuland historic spot. The Mansion changed hands a few years ago and another sale has just been completed. We are hopeful that will bring it back to the 5 star restaurant it should be. The main dining room has been closed for years, but is more impressive than the hallway where the restaurant serves these days. The food is still delicious, but the atmosphere and service have declined. Let's hope our next visit takes it back to the stellar level it should be.

We booked dinner for two during New Year's Eve. It turned out the night was buffet only, which was a surprise. The buffet was limited and the food quality was not great with most meat entrees being dry or over cooked. The meal ended up costing $250 for two with a mandatory 20% tip for a self-service buffet. We were not impressed.

This place has an identity crisis. I don't think the older guy that walks around with his hands in his pockets has a care in the world when it comes to service or the experience, odd dude, rather rude actually.
The food was ok. It seemed like the waitstaff were too busy chit chatting (loudly) in the back. The silverware was spotty, and the table seemed oily or dirty. Great view, though. We both had some very tasty cocktails, two thumbs up there. We don't mind paying up, but this place ain't hitting the mark.
It's not fine dining that's for sure. Didn't care for the kids running around either.
Beautiful island though.

Considering the price range, I was expecting better. I took the ribeye, and although it was cooked exactly medium rare, which is what I asked, it wasn't very tasty, which is a bit disappointing for a 55$ meal. I had to add a lot of salt to bring back some flavor. In the end it was ok - just ok. I can't help but feel it wouldn't have taken much more to make it great, it probably just was lacking in seasoning. But at that price, this is something I feel I had to mention.

We had yummy food and drinks and were accommodated with good seating location since we had two kids and we did not want to cause commotion next to other customers.

I only visited the structure. it's an historical place and it has been very well preserved
The Wagyu burger was a work of art—definitely my favorite burger of all time. The fries were delicious too, very creamy inside. Unfortunately, my wife had a very lame gluten-free pasta dish. She did not want all of the seafood that was in the other pasta dish and went for the gluten-free vegetarian alternative after confirming with our wonderful server Emily that it was flavorful—olives and capers—and not plain. What arrived though was a relatively small portion of broken up pasta. The flavor was good, but the chef hadn’t even bothered with a garnish of fresh parsley or side vegetables. This dish really should come with the Option to get gluten-free pasta if one desires, but otherwise to provide a quality pasta. Those of us who have cooked gluten-free know it can be tricky, but for $32 this was really not an acceptable offering. My wife asked for something to make it more interesting and was offered the chef’s chili oil, which she enjoyed. There’s just no getting around the poor presentation and quality of this dish however, hence the less than stellar review. Our crème brûlée dessert tasted wonderful, but the torching had melted it somewhat—a rookie mistake. Emily was a delight, very helpful as far as wine samples and information in general, chatty and fun. And I really enjoyed chatting with host Robert about motorcycles, etc. He’s a great Front Man for a wonderful historical establishment and I hope the place treats him well.*We learned while staying at the resort (9/14-15, 2023) that it is up for sale; perhaps this accounts for other poor reviews I saw here for the restaurant.*I will write a separate review for our room, but the short version is be forwarned—you will have a fairly long walk outside to your room, the walls are bare/no decor, and there were stains on our carpet and chairs. And it cost almost $600 for the two nights. The upside is the view is Fantastic, and getting to have access to the historic Mansion is a wonderful experience! It was a big treat for me to come back to Rosario after working here 45 years ago.*The local community has visiting hours and that includes children—*be aware that if you want a calm and relaxing time in the pool/hot tub to avoid those hours.
