told me there not taking customes at 2:39 pm when they close at 3.
I understand not wanting to take new customers after 250. but if you don't want people to show up at 2:39pm expecting to be able to order food, then change your hours to 230 close. not hard.
Even if you leave a gratuity, the staff are a bit choleric and try to avoid eye contact with you as much as possible so they don't have to answer your questions. The server didn't say much beyond "here's your food" and didn't ask if anything else was needed, and would later avoid our table (possibly fearing questions). I had scrambled eggs with French toast, bacon, and hash browns. Everything tasted okay except for the eggs, which tasted like soap. When I approached the cashier about this issue, she fled very quickly so I had to wait to speak with someone on the other end of the restaurant. Upon telling the other server that my eggs tasted like soap, she said she'd "tell them about it" with a look of mild confusion/frustration (which is how I felt; eggs aren't supposed to taste like soap, at least not the kind of eggs I normally consume). They seem to be standoffish and irascible when their manager isn't there, so I'm assuming this happens often. Overall, I experienced less-than-average service and I kinda regret leaving a gratuity. I hope that it's just morning grumpiness and that they don't treat any later customers this way. Oh, and the music choice was awkward; it sounded like whoever was in control of the playlist was trying to make the dining experience as uncomfortable as possible. I wouldn't recommend this place anymore based on this experience.

Normally I rate pbc very high but not today. The three of us show up at 12.30 for lunch. First off a delivery truck is blocking the entrance- at lunch time. My wife uses a walker and had to maneuver around the truck. We order, nothing elaborate, a turkey sandwich, a salad and pancakes. When asked they said there was a party of 8 in front of us, maybe but we sure waited a long time. The entire time we were there guys were going back and forth with boxes as they unloaded the truck. It really takes away from a relaxing lunch when there is this constant traffic, and I have a hard time believing that them unloading the truck didn't have anything to do with a slow delivery of our lunch.
I have often seen a sign at restaurants stating 'no deliveries between 11 and 1' . Maybe poverty bay should get one?

The setup is pretty standard—you order at the register, and they bring your food to the table. After placing a large order, we were excited to dig in, especially since the portions and presentation looked fantastic when they arrived.
However the pancakes had a gummy texture that made them hard to enjoy. My son did not enjoy his waffle & my husband’s corned beef hash was extra chewy, making it difficult for him to savor his meal as well.
We did enjoy the eggs, bacon & tuna melt w/ chips.
I really wanted to love this place but they kinda missed the mark for us. I might give it another chance in the future.

Worst place in the world do not ever eat here. I knocked on the door to use the bathroom and some lady who works there came to my table while I was sitting there and said please do not ever knock on the door that loud I got up and got my refund. I don’t recommend eating at this place to anyone on top of it. They stole my credit card information horrible people.

Good food but it did take a while to get our order. Line to order can be long early in the morning.

In my constant quest for a better cup of coffee, I landed at Poverty Bay for a pound of quality coffee beans. There was one person talking to a young woman working behind the counter. I looked at the menus and waited while she was helping the customer. As my waiting time kept increasing, and the person behind the counter not acknowledging me whatsoever, I realized that the "customer" was more than likely not a customer but perhaps a friend, or future friend, I decided that there was going to be no effort on her part to sell me a pound of coffee beans. It was a bit disappointing, since she could have at least told me she'd be with me shortly or something similar. I was the only other person there. On the positive side, I found out that Federal Way has its own coffee bean roasting company that has retail sales of fresh roasted beans to the public. I gave Poverty Bay 2 stars because the store was clean and very nice inside. I can't review anything else other than the lack of service and common courtesy to this customer.
I wasted 20 minutes getting a latte to go at 11am. Food and beverage quality must be solid for this hole-in-the-wall to be packed heading into lunch. I guess I'll try to avoid peak hours in the future. Also parking lot was FULL; I had to park on the street and walk half a block.

A great place to pick up your coffee. They have really good coffee beans that they will grind on request. It's even better to stay for breakfast (or take it home). The breakfast burrito is fantastic.

Came here to have a nice breakfast that wasn’t McDonalds. Easy to read signs everywhere. Ordered and the food is amazing. Plus I will pay a little more to help their mission. Will come again.
