We had an excellent late lunch at the hungry clam. ?The owner was very kind and even though they were closing he was willing to cook us a 3-piece fish and chip meal and give us a complementary lavender beverage. Definitely one of the best experiences on the island! ?

Great location, authentic feel, awesome community

Best greasy spoon I've had in a long time. Corned beef hash and eggs made the way it should be. The chocolate chip pancakes are to die for! I love this joint!

TERRIBLE PLACE TO GOWe as a family have been visiting this restaurant for years, but during this trip 3-10-21 we stoped to have a sandwich, there were 4 others sitting out side waiting for their order, (no masks on) they had masks but were pulled down. The older guy came to the window and yelled to us PUT YOUR MASKS ON RIGHT OR GO EAT SOMEWHERE ELSE. Thats what we did, we will never go back. HORRIBLE place to go.

They don't want off-island customers. They charged an extra ~$5 PER ITEM and called it a "COVID Charge" when I noticed the bill was almos DOUBLE what it should have been. The "COVID Charge" was not provided in an itemized receipt. This was for front window walk-up service. Next time I'm on San Juan Island (on business) I won't be eating here. I'll find a business that is welcoming to people from off-island and is open an honest about the charges.

This place certainly has mixed reviews. Ours is not one of the good ones. We stopped by since they had outdoor tables. The person taking orders at the window was nice, but not wearing a mask. We ordered fried oysters and fish and chips. Fries were brown like we like, but not terribly crisp. My oysters were on the small side, overcooked and over-battered. Included with my oysters were 3 oyster shaped blobs of burned batter. Did that mean that 3 of my oysters were still floating around in the oil? Most fried oysters come breaded, not battered and that is how they should be. Fish was again over-browned. The pieces were really thick and seemed spongy rather than flaky which I think indicated they were under-cooked. Were they battering frozen fish? Don't honestly know how else to get brown but under-cooked, otherwise maybe the oil was too hot. Anyway food was OK, and the day was lovely.

Good breakfast, similar quality as IHOP. They have limited outdoor seating but I went to eat on the lunch tables in the garden outside the Public Restrooms

why are they in business? terrible service, rude owner and mediocre food. I know that they are rude to tourist, because they don't want them.

We tried to go here. They DO NOT want visitors! Only locals. I understand during COVID if they’re frustrated with visitors but once life is “normal” won’t they need visitors. Years ago it was my favorite “hole in the wall.” I had hoped to bring my kids but we left since they honestly do not want tourists. The Bait Shop, up the street, was absolutely delicious though and made up for the disappointment and rude staff at Hungry Clam. Hopefully they will become a friendly place again and appreciate all customers.

Dry jerky like pulled pork, and dry sponge like breaded chicken sandwich. It possible we got the last dregs of food before closing, but I’ve never had pulled pork so hard and greasy at the same time. After waiting over 20 minutes for this, we’re pretty disappointed.

ZERO STARS, but was required to post a reviewNOT TOURIST FRIENDLY !!!!!Absolutely the rudest waitress I’ve ever met. We ate there our first day, and no issues other than her and the cook- had bad attitudes. We returned for breakfast the second day, and were treated horribly. Due to COVID, outdoor seating was the only option- which we didn’t have an issue with. The problem was, there were only two picnic tables available and a sign posted on each table - “Locals seating only” another sign, which was hard to read because it had water marks smearing they writing- stayed “unless you are eating” The waitress told us to leave, we can’t sit there... we asked why not? She replied “because you can’t, that’s why”... the place was filthy anyway.

Worst service! Grumpy and rude! Didn’t give us our complete order, and they don’t give a receipt. Yelling at customers and using expletives to complain about customers to each other. Surprising how bad this place is. I love Friday Harbor, but will never go to this establishment again. Hope something else will replace it soon!!
