Unorthodox layout, but a great place to get lunch before catching a ferry back to Anacortes!

The roast beef sandwich was AMAZING and bathrooms were nice and clean. The salmon chowder was not great and more of a chicken noodle soup with barely any salmon so that was pretty disappointing. But I would come back for the sandwiches for sure!!

A must go! My absolute fav spot to eat or take out for picnic. Food quality and service are top notch! They do such wonderful job. Store has finest curated items like spices, Italian pasta, sauces, etc. Patio dining is great! Check schedule. It would be great they would open seven days a week during summer.

WOW! I loved the roast beef and rocket sandwich. I guess the Rocket is the horseradish? I normally avoid horseradish, but this was awesome. The sandwich got better with every bite. The blueberry croissant was also incredible. Fresh peach kombucha on tap, so good.
The owner greeted many customers by name, so clearly the locals love it.
Seating outside, we enjoyed the sun.
It's not cheap but SO WHAT. Treat yourself.

Food was delicious, but a little pricier than I expected. We got the spicy italian and prawn tacos (the tacos are only available every Friday). Really cute store with fairly priced items (pantry staples, fancier tinned fish, cooking utensils, etc.)
Must try! If you like sandwiches they have seasonal fresh ingredients. All of us three adults were commenting with every bite how good our different sandwiches were.
They also will customize if you or your kiddo want something a little less full of stuff. Like the gridded cheese both of my kids ordered.
Absolutely loved my visit to The Market Chef! I tried the Spicy Italian and the Summer Garden sandwiches—both were incredibly fresh and clearly made with high-quality, clean ingredients. The portions were generous for the price, and the overall vibe of the cafe is super cute, with some cozy seating options in both the front and back. My only wish is that they were open more than four days a week! Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area—you won’t be disappointed.

Best lunch on island…Delicious flavors, clean, high quality, and creative offerings… highly skilled chefs serving up authentic island love::.i’m so grateful for Market chef, the food never disappoints…the specials are always good, the meatloaf, crab and shrimp cakes, and all the sandwiches
Get your picnic stuff here. We came on a day trip and sort of stumbled on this place. So glad we did. Got fantastic food for a light picnic at Lime Kiln State Park and everything was delicious.
Delicious sandwich (Roast Beef and Rocket), lots of items suitable for gifts. But unfortunately they are closed 3 days/week. Happy they were open when we were downtown. We sat outside (a non-typical sunny day!).
We have had meals a half dozen times. We never get the same thing. If you like tuna salad, theirs is a treat. The potato salad with vinaigrette is light and tangy. Hubby enjoyed a fish taco. I did get seriously ill after eating crab cakes, but that happened twice on this island in 2 months with top tier restaurants...so I have to wonder if they are buying bad lots of crab from same supplier. I have otherwise only gotten ill from dining 1 time in the last 15 years. The retail area is cute. The customer service ordering area is cramped with limited view of foods to take/heat. We have walked in and out a few times because we cannot see the options and get a feel for what's available. Sometimes there's 24 hour "stories" on social media to see highlights of foods in the case. Those do draw us in, but it would be better to see pinned posts of a weekly menu at least.
