I thoroughly enjoyed my Turkey Dinner Special. It was generously portioned & a steal for $15.99, the quality was excellent. The Turkey was tender, flavorful & succulent. The Veggies were to die for, fresh Squash, Zucchini, Carrots, Cauliflower, Broccoli & Bell Peppers were grilled to perfection. The Mashed Potatoes were hearty, chunky & delicious, topped with turkey gravy. Stuffing & a trip to the Salad Bar were also included. The owner gave me a free slice of Chocolate Mousse Pie which tasted amazing. It was an older, well worn establishment & it was spotless. My server made me feel like a family member, she was a kind & gracious lady.Offerings included Steak, Ribs, Pasta, Vegetarian dishes, Lamb Chops, Mediterranean meals & a host of classics.Happy Hour was from 2-7 pm & included specials on drinks, many appetizers & a few entrees. Breakfast was served at all hours. The $20.00 Fresh Salmon Dinner with grilled asparagus & the fixings boasted an EIGHT OUNCE FILLET of WILD CAUGHT SALMON that sounded divine. The two regulars I visited with said the Salmon was popular but neither cared for any type of fish. Both raved about the improved food. The new owner said he was planning additional menu items. Most meals were under $20.00. I carried an order of Baklava home, it was addictive & decadent. The huge free lot had an abundance of very close parking spaces all around the building, with a few accessible parking spaces. The interior of the restaurant was completely accessible but I didn’t visit the ladies room. I would have been shocked if it wasn’t ADA compliant as well.I FOUND MY NEW GO TO…?Vegetarian options: Amazing fresh veggies were grilled, they also offer fresh Asparagus & several veggie dishes. I’m a dedicated Omnivore, I’ve never enjoyed vegetarian offerings before but I’m considering a Vegetarian experience for an upcoming visit.

Since the Golden Steer reopened, we have given them 3 chances to earn our business back. Each experience with food and attentive has been worse than the last. Food was terrible… how do you screw up country gravy (it can come premade), hollandaise was lumpy and not even a good powdered version. The English muffins weren’t toasted for the eggs Benedict… who does that? The Server kept helping others and ignoring our plates, although they were stacked at the end of the table, and drink glasses empty. There were 4 tables total in the restaurant that had occupants and only half got any attention, and that attention was because they stopped someone for help. We watched a couple come in and waited 20 mins… no offer to get them drinks, no nothing. They left. I would have too. My husband was paying the tab after we had to stop someone to request it, the gentleman at the front desk said oh don’t worry I can fill out the tip and calculate it. (Ummmm no) We will not be back. This place will not be open in a year. Horrible horrible horrible! Don’t waste your money. The only thing decent was the Bloody Mary.

One of our party didn't even eat their meal. The hashbrowns weren't cooked all the way (still cold). Canned gravy and premade chciken fried steak.

I have one suggestion, have your waitresses tone down the use of perfume. I want to smell the food I eat, not her perfume every time she walks bye.

Wow, and not in a good way. We went after an event in Kent. It was late. Unfortunately we didn't read the reviews. Lesson learned. Please do not order any type of beef products from this "restaurant". However the server was really nice, friendly and new. I hope the best for her. As for the restaurant, you should have stayed closed.

Cool revival of an Kent institution! Absolutely loved the addition of Mediterranean food to the classic menu! Prices were reasonable. Everything was tasty. My favorite bite was the in house made baklava and a cup of Turkish coffee. We were given samples of fresh hummus and baba ganoush. Our server was Mo, the owner. I loved his passion and how attentive he was! He made sure we were happy but also allowed us room to talk over dinner.Karaoke on Friday nights and live music on Saturday nights. We’ll be back for sure!

I've been going to the Golden Steer since I was a child, so we are now looking at 20 years. Like most things in Kent, the nostalgia is gone. I didn't really appreciate the sabotage for the previous owners, so I want to give an honest review. I went during the true lunch hour, and it was dead. Customers all seemed kind of grumpy, so the atmosphere felt awkward based on the patrons. The wait staff was friendly, but I also think kind of awkward and not aware this was once a very chatty establishment.Collectively at the table we were all a little surprised that there is no actual lunch menu. It made sese to me now why everyone had ordered the fish & chips. I really liked my fish, it was evenly fried and the fish was not dry at all. The batter was a little thick but it had great flavor. The fries are bland, but fries have always been bland at the Golden Steer. Two of us ordered the fish & chips, and one ordered the ribeye. He didn't get a ribeye though, just a general steak. The vegetables were freshly steamed but the baked potato was cold and so was the steak. There was also the grilled shrimp ordered for the table. I'm allergic to shellfish and pregnant so I did not taste it. Who I was with really enjoyed the shrimp and said it was very sweet. They were slightly off put by the heads and it looked like peeling was difficult, but this is common for a lot of mediterranean restaurants and even Asian restaurants.Based on the menu, and just overall vibe I would not say this is the Golden Steer we all remember. This is a very different restaurant and trying to stay an old Kent classic of American dining might hurt them in the long run. The paintings we all love looking at just looks and feels really awkward. Even the classic furniture no longer fits. I miss the warm sandwiches during the lunch hour, and I'm personally not too thrilled about going to breakfast. Breakfast used to be served all day, but not anymore. I would still give them another try after they've been opened longer, but right now I can't eat half the menu. The wait staff can be a little more attentive as I did see some folks get forgotten about, but we were waited on heavily and got everything we asked for with smiles.
