Amazing atmosphere, superb service, hidden gem. Sushi Kaunta is the best sushi/sashimi that I’ve had in the PNW and is on par with the same quality/tastes that I’ve had from other similar restaurants in Asia. I came across the restaurant online and thankfully the owner was able to help me with a table for one. The owner is extremely nice and provides personable service. I had the chef’s choice nigiri and ordered two additional pieces off of the menu, every bite was fresh and extremely delicious. Highly recommended and I look forward to when I can come back again! Definitely reach out in advance for a reservation and follow the clear directions on the website to make a reservation.

I got the Sake Moriwase and a tuna maki roll. Though pricey the quality was pretty good. He took the time to explain my order as well and what he would of done if it was a sit-down meal. I would come back once reservations are available.

Sushi Kaunta is a great spot to try high quality fish and an amazing tasting experience. I ordered the Chef’s choice Nigiri menu which I highly recommend if you want to try different species of fish. I also got the maguro mariowase, x2 uni, and sashimi maki and felt that it was plenty of food for two. Thank you to chef Sean Hyun for the pleasant experience :)!

A new chef, great sushi at counter in a small cozy spot (and I am a sushi snob from Japan).

What a hidden gem! Make sure you get a reservation! Atmosphere is very intimate and quiet. Has a bit of a western salon vibe too. Street parking nearby. Once you enter the building the door to the restaurant is to your immediate left. We both opted for tea when asked. Chef is very knowledgeable and makes sure to list the fish and where they’re from once he brings out the dish. We did the chefs choice plate and it was absolutely amazing. The cuts of fish melted in your mouth and we loved the wasabi so much we probably burned all our nose hairs off. Will definitely be back!

The place is an absolute gem and the chef is a pleasure to dine with. My wife and I opted for the sushi bar seating where we could chat with chef while he prepared our nigiri. Each piece was expertly and meticulously crafted. He is a one-man show, even more impressive when you think about it, especially as the plates are coming out. We had tea while we waited to be served and it really was the perfect compliment to get started. What a gem to have access to in south king county. We are so lucky! To address the odd 1-star review: it is clearly stated on the website and at the restaurant how to go about scheduling a reservation. Perhaps you'd be better suited for the American chain sushi restaurants where they plaster potato chips and mayonnaise over rolls and dare call it sushi.

Wow! The sushi here was on another level, especially the nigiri. I came here on a Friday evening and had a few pieces of nigiri and some roles. The chef was the only one working and was very kind despite being busy with orders. I had the chutoro, ama ebi and scallop nigiri. The chef told me about each piece and where it came from. I also had the salmon sashimi which was delicious. For rolls I had the Hawaii roll and tempura shrimp roll. Both were fresh and beautiful. I will definitely come back!

This has been the best sushi I've had in a while! Everything was super fresh and reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. It's ran by the sweetest chef and is a one man show, and the service was great. They only have 12 seats available and it's reservations only so be sure to make one before showing up!

One of my favorite omakase experiences in Seattle! It's super affordable and very intimate. It's the perfect spot for a date - whether it be with a friend or significant other! The fish is fresh and prepared well - the seasoning on the fish isn't too strong or overwhelming. The chef Sean does everything himself which is super impressive. He's also super kind and fun! He had a lot of insights to share which I really enjoyed. Be sure to reserve ahead of time via instagram - you won't regret it!

I think I've been back for Sean's sushi almost a dozen times since last summer and EVERY SINGLE TIME he has not disappointed. How is the sushi this consistent? I'm amazed! My downfall is I have a hard time deviating from the chefs choice nigiri, but someday hope to explore more of the menu. Here are finally some photos of his amazing sushi!

Absolutely amazing omakase experience. The 12-piece chef’s choice was incredible, not to mention you watch and interact with the chef the entire time. A small, humble location, Sushi Kaunta is a fabulous hidden gem in the city. If you love uni, get yourself a serving from the Hokkaido option.
