“While at the dentist two weeks ago, dental X-rays showed a hole in one of my molars. I was referred to a specialist who I don’t see until Monday. After seeing my dentist again he ordered another prescription so it was off to Olympia to pick it up.

The script needed to be taken with food so it was off to find dinner. A quick search and we were right next to the Viking.

It is definitely an older building and has been around a long time. It was clean inside although there was still a faint odor of cigarette smoke from years of smoking patrons. It was not a deal breaker, especially as I am allergic to smoke.

Being a bar/lounge, it was dark inside so it took a bit to acclimate my eyes. There were several tables on what looked like an old dance floor so Ray and I sat up there.

The bartender came right over with menus. She was very friendly and welcoming. She immediately went over the specials which were on the board but on the opposite side of where we were sitting. The NY strip with baked potato, salad, and garlic bread for $17.95, sold both Ray and me. Medium rare, and loaded baker and honey mustard dressing and she was off.

Our salads came out first and they were huge!!! Lettuce, tomato, black olives on the side and cheese. All very fresh looking and tasting.

The cook served us. He likes to go a little bit rare on the steaks and told us he would throw them back on the grille if they were too rare. They were perfect!!!

The loaded butter for the baked potatoes, was well seasoned, and very good. It was served in a generous sized container. Ditto with the sour cream. The garlic bread was well seasoned too.

The cook came out to personally check to ensure the steaks were to our liking. That was a very nice touch and much appreciated.

While the Viking might not be much to look at from the outside, or on the inside, the service and the food more than makes up for the building. We will definitely be back!!! I want to check out their breakfast. If breakfast is anything like our dinner, we won’t be disappointed.“

“Need to get food while waiting for mom in hospital. Was good American grub. We had chicken mushroom grilled onions sandwich and grilled chicken sandwich. Fries with that. Yum.
Took a minute for wait staff to get my to go order, but the food was fast after that. People were chilling at the bar on a Saturday afternoon. Too cold inside.“

“Steak night on Wednesday is a good value and the steaks are usually tender and well seasoned. The other food items, like salads, vegetables, baked potatoes, and appetizers are usually very good.

The servers are generally attentive and friendly.

I struggle with the atmosphere virtually every time we visit. It's usually quite loud with mainstream sporting events and jukebox music cranked up but not enough to drown-out those who have had too much to drink and whose vocabulary is limited to an unending flood of f-bombs and other profanity.

Meanwhile, the Brick also offers a rewards and loyalty program.“

“i just wanted to thank the bartender there tonight. i am currently houseless, which in a lot of ways is a crime and most certainly looked down upon by polite society and so i wanted to thank the bartender at this facility for giving me a rare gift. They kicked me out of the bar in the most optimal way i could have hoped for. i admittedly use wifi in public locations to communicate with my children from time to time and as I don't drink alcohol this can cause proprietors to feel as if my use of their wifi constitutes theft or that i am benefitting off of a service that is paid for by paying patrons and since I don't drink alcohol or have much to offer i shouldn't be able to use the services. i understand that they have a business to run, and that my use, of THEIR wifi, to talk to my son, is not their business model and certainly not one that will turn a profit. Further more, it is not their responsibility to ensure that i am able to talk to my son and it is well within their right to require me to purchase something to use their facilities. Fully agreed, and as a houseless person in Olympia I have been told to leave in a much more demeaning, dehumanizing fashion so i am truly thankful for the bartenders at the 4th ave tavern because they kicked me out in a way that didn't alert my son that his dad was being kicked out for being unable to purchase a drink and because they did so discreetly, I was able to retain what little dignity I have left and save face in front of my child. so thank you, it does mean a lot to occasionally feel as though my presence is not a complete blight and that maybe my son will go to bed wishing his dads wifi service was better so we could have talked a little longer instead of the reality which is your father can't even get together enough money for a drink that he will not have drank but what would have allowed him to talk about everything and nothing at all for just a little bit longer. thank you.“
