This Salvadoran restaurant is a solid spot for comforting, flavorful food. You order and pay at the counter first, then they bring the food to your table.

We tried the revuelta pupusa, which comes filled with beans, cheese, and pork. It was well made, flavorful, and even better with the two hot sauce bottles provided on the table. We also shared the molcajete mixto, which came with a variety of meats and soft cactus. It was tasty and a great way to try a little bit of everything. Definitely make sure to scoop up the sauce and eat it with the tortillas.

The Jamaica and agua de ensalada are a must to wash everything down. Both were refreshing and paired really well with the food.

Service was friendly, but very minimal. Staff brought the food to the table, but it was hard to flag someone down since they often disappeared into the kitchen. There were no water refills or much table service beyond dropping off the food. Because of that, having the payment machine suggest at least a 15% tip at the counter felt a bit unjustified for the level of service provided.

Overall, the food was enjoyable and worth trying, especially for the pupusas, molcajete, and drinks. I would come back for the food, but with the expectation that service is more counter-style and limited.

This place is fabulous. Great service and amazing food. We went as a family and everyone had delicious meals with lots to the home. The molcajete is crazy huge, probably enough for three people or one teenage boy. It has chicken, steak, shrimp, nopales, sausage, cheese, avocado and comes with tortillas, rice, the best beans you've had north of the border, and salad. The tamals are enormous and delicious! The elote tamal is wonderfully sweet and dessert-like. The pupusas (we had zucchini and spinach with cheese) were so tender and yummy. We started with fried yucca and didn't really want the chicharonnes they usually come with so they let us have all yucca. OMG! There is nothing as crunchy and creamy as these fried sticks of bliss. The hotter of the 2 salsa they gave us was pretty spicy but so flavorful. The herbs and spices were used to bring out the flavors of every dish so well. I can't wait to go back. Might just bring an extra order of beans home.

This is ridiculous!

I gave a 4 star on food because everything was good except the corn tamale. On service because it was pretty much a self serve so it would be unfair to a true 5 star service. On atmosphere because its poorly lit in some areas. Nevertheless a solid 4 star.

Delicious! Have had several things here and it always hits. Papusas are obviously a fav and the side dishes (rice, beans, and a vinegary slaw) are SO GOOD! Makes great takeout. Everything seems to be made fresh so expect a little bit of a wait.

Food is good. A little sad about this sign. Just because a bill is older doesn't make it invalid currency. :-(

This place is incredible! I get the papusas and the 3 amigos. The sofrito they use makes the black beans taste like butter - purely perfect! I always take my out of town guests here too because everything on the menu is perfect. The best part of living in south tacoma is the food - and El Pulgarcito is no exception. You know it's good if the place local Latinos go there. Everyone should go!

You should not charge for the tortillas because if is a salvadorean restaurant you must included that on the plate already that so bad
