Stumbled across this place just walking around downtown Long Beach for the first time. It's tucked toward the end of the street and I almost missed it entirely. Super small, maybe 2 tables inside and a couple of picnic tables outside, so if you are not paying attention you will walk right past it. I am really glad I did not.

Food was delicious. I had the pulled pork sandwich. And the hubby had the ribs. They both were very good. The ribs melted in my mouth when I stole a bite from the hubby! And the cornbread was delicious. I would highly recommend this place.
Amazing brisket! I talked briefly with the pot master the night before. We even delayed our departure just to bring some back home. We will be down there again next month and will be eating theee!

Surf Hog BBQ is a small restaurant tucked toward the end of the street in downtown Long Beach. It may have only 2 tables inside and a couple of picnic tables outside, so it is easy to walk right past it. The brisket plate with flat only is tender, which is not easy to pull off. The baked beans are really good and homemade, the coleslaw is solid, and the little bite size cornbread is a nice touch. The barbecue sauce is on point. The pulled pork sandwich and the ribs are very good, and the ribs melt in your mouth and are fall-off-the-bone. The cornbread is delicious. The brisket is amazing and melt-in-your-mouth. The sauces served perfectly complement the meats, and you can taste the quality of the meats while enjoying the smoke and sauces. The sweet tea is authentic. The folks are very friendly, and the ribs are amazing with a fantastic rub. This is a genuine hidden gem for authentic pit BBQ.
