UMI SUSHI | Japanese • Teriyaki is a local spot with a cozy, welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. The food has been described as delicious with lots of variety, and the sashimi is always fresh with lovely presentation. However, recent visits have been disappointing for many customers. Since new owners took over, the quality has dropped significantly. Some meals had issues: a deep fried roll and calamari came out with breading that was very dark and tasted terrible, and the calamari rings dripped grease. The Dragon roll was ok, not great. Sashimi once had a lot of pinbones that were too thick to chew. Another visit included fish too tough to bite, frozen squishy cucumber, and overcooked soft shell crab. A shrimp tempura roll was cold and not freshly made, with rice and seaweed that tasted like it was sitting in a refrigerator. It took 25 minutes for sushi even with only three tables filled, and prices are very expensive. Under the previous owner, the sushi was incredible, but now some customers have started to expect disappointment.
